Can I start taking photos now or do I have to wait until September?

Please start now! It doesn’t matter when you took your photos, only that you upload them during the month of September 2013.

Can I start uploading my entries now?

No, entries can be accepted only if uploaded in September. More details as to how to do that will follow. Of course, you are free to upload any image to Commons now, in the normal way, but if you do that you will not be able to enter that image into the competition (re-uploads will not be allowed). So, take photos now and hold on to them.

Can I enter even if I am not based in the UK?

Yes, of course! Please feel free to submit any photos you may have taken in the past, for example during a previous holiday in the UK.
