Shields
A department of the U.S. Roads WikiProject

The Shields Department for the U.S. Roads WikiProject creates and maintains graphics, called shields or route markers, for use on road-transportation-related articles. The department is responsible for ensuring that shields are created as prototypical as possible.

California[edit]

The California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices refers to some colors that are not found in the national MUTCD. The following table lists colors that are sometimes referred to only by name, without a corresponding Pantone number:

Installing the MUTCD color palette[edit]

If you frequently create or edit shields and other MUTCD signage, you can install the MUTCD colors as a color palette in your preferred vector graphics editor.

Inkscape[edit]

  1. Open the Preferences dialog and go to the System section.
  2. Click the Open button next to the User Palettes field to open the Palettes folder.
  3. Save the following text as MUTCD.gpl in the Palettes folder:

  4. Restart Inkscape.
  5. Click the ◀ button to the right of the color palette strip at the bottom of the window (or in the top-right corner of the Color Palette panel), then choose MUTCD.gpl from the menu.
