Upload Wizard just uploads one file

Hi when just tried to upload 21 files it uploads just the 1st file and then he come with an error message: "Error: http://bits.wikimedia.org/commons.wikimedia.org/load.php?debug=false&lang=de&modules=ext.uploadWizard&skin=vector&version=20130301T025955Z&* at line 0: Script error." Can someone tell me what to do?--Sanandros (talk) 07:22, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm encountering a similar problem. When uploading a series of files, only the first file uploads properly. Throbbers spin continuously for the remaining files, which do not upload at all. I'm using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. — SMUconlaw (talk) 14:02, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
OK, I've figured out how to file a bug at Bugzilla and I've reported the issue as Bugzilla46845. — SMUconlaw (talk) 12:44, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Uploading two photos

On March 17. 2013 i uploaded two images (a self-portrait photo of Roger Schlaifer and a phot of Roger Schlaifer with Andy Warhol to go on the http://www.zaped.info/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Roger_L._Schlaifer

And I sent in the free license form as follows:

I hereby affirm that I, Roger L. Possible upload bug

When using the "Upload Wizard" to upload multiple photos, the wizard will assign the name of one photo to a random selection of other photos, upload multiple copies of one photo, or altogether skip the upload of any one or more photos. In none of these cases is there any kind of error message produced. In the case of the skipped or mislabeled photos, if a second attempt is made to upload the incorrectly labeled or missing photos, an error message reading something like "error: this content already exists on wiki commons" will be produced. Unable to upload the photo that failed previously, the photo has to be renamed on your own machine before you are able to upload it successfully to wiki commons. Thanks for taking the time to report this! The problem you are reporting sounds like a potential issue in the code of the MediaWiki software or the server configuration. If the problem is reproducible, it would be nice if somebody who has this issue could send the software bug to the 'Bugzilla' bug tracker by following the instructions How to report a bug, in this case under the product 'MediaWiki Extensions' and the component 'UploadWizard' (You can use this direct link if you have a Bugzilla account). This is to make developers of the software aware of the issue. If you have done so, please paste the number of the bug report (or the link) here, so others can also inform themselves about the bug's status. Thanks in advance! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:38, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Is this page monitored?

Is anyone monitoring this page at all? There hasn't been any response to my feedback posted in March above ("Upload Wizard just uploads one file"), and I still can't get Upload Wizard to upload more than one file. I've resorted to using the basic upload form. — SMUconlaw (talk) 18:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I am forced to upload a file that already exists

During a batch upload, if I accidentally include a file whose name already exists, I am forced to change the name of the new file in order to upload the rest of the the files, even if I then realize that it does not need to be uploaded as a new file, but rather, the old file needs to be updated to match the new one. If I go ahead and change the name of the new file in order to complete the upload of the rest of the files, I end up with a file that then needs to be deleted. If I then update the original file to match the new one before the new one is deleted, I of course get a warning that these are duplicates. Why not just allow the upload of individual files to be skipped if their name already exists? Nonenmac (talk) 22:26, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Works horribly

I'm sorry, but the Wizard is just haunted with bugs and is unusable, no matter how hard I try (as I really do think it's a good idea).

If I try to add a file, it doesn't attempt to upload, or show a thumbnail, or load, or do anything. It doesn't even show a button so I'm effectively stuck! I managed to force it by adding another file, then removing it, which made 2 buttons pop up.

If I click 'Retry failed uploads', it will forever try and upload the file with the countdown timer slowly counting up and up and up.

If I click 'Continue anyway', I get to the licensing screen but it is impossible for me to click the 'Next' button. It's as far as I can possibly go with this thing.

I used to be able to work it in the past, but now it is messed up. Very unfortunate and very frustrating. Using latest version of Chrome on Windows 7. Also tested with IE 9 and same issues. JamesA (talk) 05:38, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

I asked to delete a pic

because it was the wrong version, now it does not let me know upload the correct version as it says there was another file with the same content that was deleted Tenpaul (talk) 09:10, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

The usual way to do this would be to go to the description page of the file you uploaded (probably File:Kerin_OKeefe2.jpg), scroll down to the File History and click on Upload a new version of this file. This way you can simply overwrite it – there's no need to delete it first. --El Grafo (talk) 11:41, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Wrong URL on Polish upload wizard

The Polish wizard image links at the bottom to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wsparcie_u%C5%BCytkownika which is incorrect. I even created this page as a redirect, but it was deleted, as it is in the main namespace. It should rather point to http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Pytania_nowicjuszy. --Wanted (talk) 19:25, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to report this! The problem you are reporting sounds like an issue in the code of the MediaWiki software or the server configuration. I have copied the issue to the 'Bugzilla' bug tracker (anybody can do this, see How to report a bug for more info). This is needed to make developers of the software aware of the issue. The link and number of the bug report is on the right, so everybody can inform themselves about status and progress. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:14, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
This can be fixed on the wiki itself I was told, see https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47248#c3 --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 07:57, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
OK, someone with admin rights needed then to fix it. --Wanted (talk) 21:23, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
So what you want is to direct people to the help desk at the polish wikipedia ? Not to the central Commons helpdesk ? Just confirming. TheDJ (talk) 12:24, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, on second thought it may be better to actually use the local Commons discussion forum in Polish, i.e. Commons:Bar. I don't even know if cross-project links are supported on special pages. --Wanted (talk) 20:15, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Probably with a bit of interwiki magic it could have been done, but this is easier. Done. TheDJ (talk) 09:55, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to report this! Unfortunately this is not very useful because it does not describe the problem well. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please read https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug and add a more useful description here. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 08:28, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Faith reproduction wording

The wording of the option for something being public domain because it is a faithful reproduction of a painting is not general enough. Faithful reproductions of any 2D art in the public domain is public domain. Jfhutson (talk) 14:34, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Upload Wizard does nothing with Flickr uploads

As the title says, I can select the files I want to upload, even limiting it to one photo but all it does (example)) is have an imageless box with the Flickr photograph title and the remove link and that it! The author isn't blacklisted, really what is the point in having the Upload Wizard (for Flickr) if it doesn't do what it was designed for. Bidgee (talk) 12:28, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

What do you mean what is the point?
  • Sometimes stuff breaks. That doesn't invalidate the entire purpose of the software.
  • UploadWizard's purpose is not to enable uploading from Flickr. That's a feature which was added on afterwards.
  • I believe this bug is caused by a conflict between assumptions in the UploadWizard code and weird stuff in the JavaScript which you personally include in User:Bidgee/monobook.js. It doesn't apply to most other users and we shouldn't have to test against every single wiki's users' personal JavaScript.
--Krenair (talkcontribs) 15:28, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Fact is that I've had nothing but issues with it since it was launched, requested to have CC-BY-AU and CC-BY-SA-AU to be added (has not happened), workload for Sysops has increased since its introduction on Commons. Also many "custom" JS have existed way before UW, doesn't mean the developers are not at fault. The nastiness from the developers with the community hasn't changed. Yes, you may donate your time and code but contributors on projects such as Commons also donate their time and "files". Bidgee (talk) 15:43, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Wizard interface bug & suggestions

Moved from Commons:Help desk –moogsi (blah) 19:51, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

I just don't have the energy to figure out the really correct place to post this -- please forgive:

  • When selecting from your local machine the files to upload, if you select multiple files at once (using <shift> -- you know what I mean, I hope) it all seems to work OK, except that in the files-to-be-uploaded list subsequently displayed by the wizard, the first filename has been clobbered with the last filename i.e. the wizard's list has the last filename twice, and the first filename not at all (maybe I've reversed first and last in the foregoing, can't recall).
  • There's no way to back up to previous pages
  • Most interfaces like this have an "OK, go ahead and actually do it"-type step at the end so you can think it over and maybe back up (though as mentioned there's no way to back up yet). In my last use, I was confused about the meaning of some of the fields and thought, Well, let me move ahead and maybe something on a later page will help me figure out what to put here. But before I knew it the files were being uploaded, which was annoying since now I may have to go in and change licensing info on 12 files individually.

Brilliant

Create custom additional licence to choose from

The interface does work very well and the code had sensible comments which were very helpful. However I ran into an problem: I'd like to use the wizard for an installation which requires a certain additional licence; I was not sucessfull in adding one: I inserted a

   'myown' => array('msg' => 'mwe-upwiz-license-myown')

in the UploadWizard.config.php

and added a matching

'mwe-upwiz-license-myown' => 'my custom licence text',

to the $messages['en'] = array(… in the UploadWizard.i18n.php.

However, I got only to choose [mwe-upwiz-license-stillown] as an option, when selecting a licence in the interface, which is the variable-name surrounded by []. I already checked the PHP error log and the javascript console but both did not point me in the right direction to solve the problem. --Simulo (talk) 21:51, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

me parece muy bien para profesores, lectores, escritores y publico en general esta apertura en diferentes especialidades. mucho exito. saludos Rchavezt (talk) 13:38, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Probable race condition in image selection

There seems to be a race condition in the image selection. At upload, my machine was quite loaded and response slow. Sometimes the previously chosen file was not shown in the list before I was able to click for another one. The file dialogue of the browser (Opera 12.14, Debian squeeze) was not always reset, but sometimes allowed me to click on the next image without scrolling. Some of the thumbnails shown later (possibly these) did not correspond to the files uploaded, but to files chosen but never uploaded (probably the previous file clicked). LPfi (talk) 14:54, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Very limited

Every time I attempt to use the "new" upload wizard for files which aren't entirely own work, I end up having to go back to the old form half-way through. Its dichotomous choices between "my own work" and "not my own work" leaves me scratching my head for how to properly describe derivative works. I've also had problems when trying to use more specific templates, which the upload wizard doesn't seem to want you to do. Paul_012 (talk) 15:35, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Paul, which web browser and which system does this happen on? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 09:04, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
It's not a browser- or system-related thing. I was rather complaining about the functionality of the options provided by the wizard. --Paul_012 (talk) 23:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

I agree with that, derivated works are not entirely "my own work" or "not my own work". That causes problems with the appropriate licensing of the work, and is a problem to link easily derived files with the original work. The Upload Wizard is made thinking in people that does not have a good knowledge about licences, but still is not appropriate to upload files for anybody.--SirWalter (talk) 18:41, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
