These fixes are applied to dc:subject before mapping to categories. Changes to spacing and case should be recorded here, so we can hand these fixes back to the library.
Common cases that are handled automatically:
- different capitalisation of first letter, e.g. "traction engines" and "Traction engines"
- preceding and trailing spaces
