Commons:Photography event calendar
For many subjects, getting a picture is just an issue of things as getting the idea, having the knowledge or being at the right place to make a photograph. But for some subjects, in particular famous people, of which we want images, opportunities arise only rarely. This page is for that kind of pictures.
Events[edit]
On these pages, we collect information about when these opportunities might arise. Usually these will be events like sporting events, festivals etcetera. For various regions, the events we know of in the near future are given. Rules for adding events are:
- They should provide an opportunity to take pictures that would be wanted by a Wikimedia project and cannot be normally taken
- Don't post things here for a single picture or subject, only when there are several at the same time
- Events should be reasonably open: An obligation to preregister is okay, but if there is a selection as to who may come in, that's not okay. Also, events and places asking more than a minor entrance fee are not wanted.
Cooperate[edit]
If you want to cooperate in this project, there are two things you can do:
- Add events - If you find an event that might be interesting, and isn't on our pages yet, add it to the relevant regional page. Information we want is:
- what event is it
- when is the event
- where is the event
- what kind of photo opportunities will there be
- a link to a page with more information (if available)
- any other pertinent information
- Take pictures - Go through the regional page of your location, or the location where you will be at some time, and see whether there's any event you would be interested in going to. Take pictures and post them here. You can also write down your name and other information on the list, so people can ask you if there is an event that would be suitable for you.
Regional pages[edit]
Because someone in Canada will not be going to Australia to make photographs for Commons, this project is divided into regional pages. Please make these neither too large (leading to people getting mostly events that are too far away to go to) nor too small (leading to people having to check various pages for events in their neighborhood). On each regional page there can be a list of events and a list of interested photographers.
