Is this worth nominating at FPC?

Black swan on Avon River, Christchurch

To me, this dramatic photo is an FP, but I'm prepared for people to oppose it because you can't see the swan's eyes. What do you think? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:46, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

This is quite obviously some kind of pose intended to make it appear as large as possible – probably to intimidate someone or maybe in a mating context. If someone can come up with a proper explanation for the description, I'm sure the lack of eye contact could be turned from bug to feature. --El Grafo (talk) 11:22, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
I see. I wouldn't be able to do anything but speculate on the function of the swan's gesture, so maybe I shouldn't nominate the photo at this point? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:06, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Interesting. A quick Google search yielded this webpage, which implies that that gesture is an act of claiming territory. ― Gerifalte Del Sabana 23:37, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. An amateur site but they seem pretty knowledgeable. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:31, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

FP

Any chance for an FP? (with or without improvements). Hanooz 12:31, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Hanooz! From the left to right:
1) FP
2) FP
3) FP - not sure about the sky and the crop but I'd support it
4) I'm not sure about the bottom crop
The quality of all images is excellent and I'd definitely recommend to nominate them. I'd start with the first two which are both above average FP to me. Regards, --Podzemnik (talk) 19:49, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
@Podzemnik,El Grafo Thanks for the review. I sent an email to the uploader and he says he can fix the issues (if fixable at all). Hanooz 11:30, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hanooz, to me, the 4th one is an FP. I'm less sure about the 1st one. It's difficult to deal with the light in that motif, and there are definitely blown sections. Hard to predict how people will react to that at FPC. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:53, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
@Ikan Kekek: Thanks for the review. Is it acceptable with what the uploader wrote in Special:Diff/371193716?
I haven't seen the problem, but we should probably take the uploader's word on this and not nominate it for FP unless they can fix whatever the problem is. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:04, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hanooz, I like them all but I am wondering if different framing would make them have an even better impact. 1) Cropping out walls to focus more on the ceiling. 2) Both arch and garden are great subject but I'd change composition to give focus to one of the two. Move up for the ceiling or zoom in for the gardens. 3) Maybe try with the rule of 1/3 2/3. 4) Again cropping to focus on the superb ceiling. Also the bottom crop might be better including a row of bricks. These are only my thought but I think this is worth a try, they are definitly all 4 seeds for FP.
