Living Heritage through your lens is a photo campaign in India organized by Contact Base, that welcomes you to promote folk music and dance, oral traditions, traditional crafts and other cultural practices which celebrates diversity, sustainability, peace and cultural harmony. This campaign is part of the esteemed Wiki Loves Living Heritage initiative, which celebrates living heritage on the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Let’s play a vital role in preserving and promoting the invaluable heritage that defines your region.

The theme of this campaign is "Embracing Peace, Diversity and Sustainability" and we encourage participants to capture the diverse cultural practices such as traditional art forms, rituals and festivals which contributes to the rich intangible cultural heritages of India and celebrates the harmonious coexistence of different cultures, promoting environmental consciousness, fostering peace, or any other theme that resonates with you and contributes to the betterment of our society.

The focus of this campaign is not on the competition aspect but rather on fostering a sense of community, cultural appreciation, and knowledge sharing. The rewards aim to celebrate the participants' commitment and passion in capturing the essence of India's intangible cultural heritage through their photographs.

The submission period commences on 24th July 2023 and concludes on 2nd September 2023.

Eligibility

The campaign is open to all residents of India who are passionate about capturing and celebrating the intangible cultural heritage present in their region which celebrates cultural harmony, peace, diversity and sustainability. We highly encourage the youth to embrace this opportunity to showcase their creative talents and perspectives.

Recognition and Rewards:

* As a token of our appreciation for the exceptional work showcased by participants, we will select the top 5 contributors who will be awarded a special prize based on their creativity, storytelling, and adherence to the theme.

  • Every participant will receive a certificate of participation.

Some Ideas to explore

  • Celebrating Cultural Diversity: Photograph diverse traditional art and craft forms/festivals that bring together people from various cultural backgrounds, showcasing unity in diversity.
  • Sustainable Living Traditions: Capture traditional practices such as organic farming, eco-friendly craftsmanship, or sustainable resource management, reflecting the harmony between communities and their natural surroundings.

Photo Guidelines

  • Only original photographs taken by the participants will be accepted.
  • Photos must be submitted in digital format and should be of high quality with Exif metadata without any watermarks and timestamps.
  • Each participant may submit up to 3 photographs.
  • Minimal digital editing or retouching is allowed. Please avoid heavy filters, watermarks or manipulations that compromise the authenticity of the cultural practices captured.
  • Please provide a brief description that sheds light on the significance of the intangible cultural heritage depicted in the image. Include details such as the name of the cultural practice, its historical roots, its importance to the local community, and any intriguing anecdotes associated with it.

* Campaign live dates: 24th July 2023 to 2nd September 2023

  • Jury selection process: 3rd September to 20th September 2023
  • Winner's announcement: 21st September 2023 (International Day of Peace)

* Participants must upload their photographs and descriptions through the upload button above.

  • Ensure that all details (name, contact information, etc.) are accurately provided during the submission process.

Copyright and Permissions:

  • By submitting the photographs, participants grant the right to utilise and showcase the images for promotional and educational purposes.
  • Participants should ensure they possess the necessary permissions and consents from the subjects or communities featured in the photographs.
