WORK IN PROGRESS: Please help with suggestions, style, and proofreading.

  • If you like to help tagging files which might be copyright violations, please follow the guidelines below:
    1. Preferably use the gadget AjaxQuickDelete which you can select in your preferences, in the Maintenance tools section. This insures that the deletion requests are properly done.
    2. If you tag files manually, always inform the uploader. This helps uploaders understanding Commons rules, and also helps admins/users who may review the situation later.
    3. For obvious copyright violations (images copied from the Internet, book/album covers, TV/game screenshots, etc.), please use {{Copyvio}} with a valid reason (source of the file, etc.).
    4. If you have suspicions, you can check if copies are available on the Internet using the GoogleImages or Tineye tools. Select them in your preferences, in the section Maintenance tools.
    5. If the image itself is free, and the issue is the copyright of the subject, please create a standard deletion request. There are many things to check: whether the country allows freedom of panorama, age of the art work, whether it is 2D or 3D, or might be de minimis or below the threshold of originality, etc.
  • For out of scope issues, please create a standard deletion request.
  • For low quality or broken files, use a suitable template from Image quality instead of deletion request.
  • For all other justified issues, please create a standard deletion request. A valid reason according to the Deletion policy has to be given! If the file or page meets Criteria for speedy deletion, you can to tag it only instead a separate deletion request.

If you want to help, look for files in Category:Media uploaded without a license, in the Gallery of new files, and in Uploads by new users. Thanks for your help.
