File:Rapid transit map of Mumbai.jpg How to make maps like this? Can anyone provide any tutorials? ArnabSaha (talk) 10:24, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

@ArnabSaha: Are you familar with this version File:Mumbai Metropolitan Railway Schematic Map (simplified).svg? For a tutorial use w:Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Resources/Draw topological maps. If you have completed your work, then it may be posted at Rapid transit#Mumbai / मुम्बई. Enjoy! - DutchTreat (talk) 17:35, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi @DutchTreat: . I make maps for Kolkata. And I wanted to make something like like this or this for Kolkata. But, I want to know how to get the background map. All the maps I created have white backgrounds. And I couldnt find anything like this here- w:Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Resources/Draw topological maps. ArnabSaha (talk) 15:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
@ArnabSaha: That helps me better understand your request. You are looking to add a background to your transit map for Kolkata using the style from Mumbai maps. Adding a background like one of your two examples is an advanced skill. There are a few techniques and tools that I would recommend.
The first example uses the Hertz-style originally from the w:New York City Subway map. To achieve this look, you may try using a vector tool like Inkscape and following the Level 1 Tutorial media:Tutorial-cartography_(basic).svg to do layering, found at w:Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Resources/Tutorials.
The second example can be achieved using QGIS and OpenStreetMap (OSM) tiles. There are Level 2 tutorials at w:Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Resources/Tutorials. Find many more tutorials from other sites like qgistutorials.com.
Enjoy learning some new skills! - DutchTreat (talk) 16:32, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
