Trouble with SVG map of Oslo Metro

A (broken) map of the Oslo Metro

This is a map of the Oslo Metro system that is intended to be used in the following articles: no:T-banen i Oslo, en:Oslo Metro

However, the preview doesn't show as expected. It shows a very reduced/broken rendition of the original SVG file (created in Inkscape).

I've tried to "clean up" the image as much as possible, removing Inkscape specific properties, flattened the image, converted all text into paths etc. But still the preview doesn't render as expected. Is there anyone who can help me out on this? Arntjay (talk) 14:41, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Looking at the file, I noticed that there were a lot of "linear gradient" elements which were not in fact gradients at all, since they only have one color specified. The strangest of the non-gradient gradients was the one named "Skygge", so I removed references to it, and now the file seems to work... AnonMoos (talk) 21:51, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Two SVGs from enwiki

Jumpow recently have transferred from enwiki two images:

• File:Divisor-summatory-big.svg
• File:Divisor-summatory.svg

Both of them have something wrong in SVG code, and images could not be displayed. However, all works fine in enwiki: en:File:Divisor-summatory.svg, en:File:Divisor-summatory-big.svg. Could anyone help with this issue? bezik (talk) 10:11, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Fixed. The required namespace definition xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" was missing from the <svg> root element in both files. SiBr₄ (talk) 10:30, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Font problem in SVG

Fixed. All issues with libRSVG encountered in the previous version:

• Bad support of percentage value for width and height.
• Scaling the text always scrambles it.

Problem rendering SVG map (Size problem?)

I just uploaded this map but try as I may I cannot make it render in either Commons or Wikipedia. I tried several options in Inkscape to save it as a smaller file (it seems it does render if the file is smaller than 10M) but they break the map (I tried plain SVG and Optimized SVG with several parameter combinations). Would anyone know how I could save the file (the good version is the first one I uploaded) so that Commons and the Wikipedias show it? Today I've tried the file on Ubuntu 15.10 with librsvg v2.40.10 and it rendered well. I think your problem comes from the SVG/XML spam filter from Wikimedia that fails with the size of the file. -- Menner (talk) 13:21, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Yes I guessed that already. I would compress this map again, as we can see on the second upload it has an thumb, so you were not patient enough for waited at generating this huge file. ↔ User: Perhelion 13:48, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

I am not sure I fully understand the last remark but let me clarify the subsequent uploads come from different attempts at reducing the file size made by using different saving options (optimized, plain...) within Inkscape. I think the versions that succeed in creating a thumbnail are the ones under 10M and the ones that do not are the ones above that limit (I may be wrong, but that seems to be the rule somehow). Unfortunately, all those attempts failed because they mangle the map, even if they succeeded in reducing its size. The goal here is to reduce the size loosing as little detail as possible. Is that feasible? Is there any recommended tool for this kind of problem?--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 13:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Seems work, and the thumb comes very fast. I used "SVG Cleaner" which is very fast and good same time. As I see now, another way to compress would be to cut of the great material outside of the viewBox!? This would save around over 1 MB without any detail loss. ↔ User: Perhelion 14:41, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for trying but, as you can see in the following links, the map gets modified by whatever SVG cleaner is doing. Here you can see a screenshot of the original map: it has shaded relief (a layer called "Sombreado" in the original SVG file) and the topographic layers have no stroke colour. In the generated thumbnail (as well as in the versions I tried to generate, see here) the shaded relief is gone and each topographic object has a dark stroke line around it. Though I could indeed try to remove some of the shapes lying outside the map frame (they are there because otherwise the topographic layers get warped when the map is generated), it would be nice if there were a way to reduce the file size while keeping the look of the map intact (i. e. keeping the shaded relief in place and the layers with the same colour definitions as the original file). Mistakes

Hello. File:Diagram Jonesa dla samogłosek szwedzkich.png contains two errors - the vowel ʉː is transcribed with a weird symbol (similar to ɯː, but slightly different), whereas the vowel ʊ is incorrectly shown as if it were long ʊː (it's not - it is the short counterpart of the long vowel uː). Please change that (ɯː -> ʉː , ʊː -> ʊ), I tried and failed - it's hard to do.

The same applies to File:Czytanie.png. Apart from what I've just said (ɯː -> ʉː , ʊː -> ʊ), the symbol ʃ̴ that appears in the top left corner also should be changed (to ɧ), which is the standard transcription of that consonant. 89.72.244.110 15:42, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

File:Diagram Jonesa dla samogłosek szwedzkich.svg  Done but I am not familiar with Polish or Swedish, so you should proofread thoroughly. You can download and edit the SVG locally in any text editor (or User talk:Rillke/SVGedit.js). Just open the SVG source file (NOT the PNG render by Wikimedia) in separate browser tag and refresh the tag whenever you have edited and saved the SVG file for a quick preview. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 03:37, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Great job, thanks. I'll have to create an account to do that (will do that in a minute), but I've just realized that File:Czytanie.png contains a few more mistakes (ʉː, ɵ, a should be red, not blue/white; dunno about the schwa - will check that later), so it's a good thing you didn't recreate it in SVG, because it'd need to be edited anyway. Dark png thumbs

Hi, I have noticed that png thumbs are too dark, see e.g. -> File:Ludwik_Brzozowski,_portrait.png or File:Bronisław Zaleski, portrait.png, but the same photos in their native resolution are good -> [1] or [2]. The firt photo I upload also on wikia an there are no such problem, see: wikia:wiersze:File:Ludwik_Brzozowski,_portrait.png. I don't know what the problem is? @Electron: Essentially, for pngs without a gAMA chunk, the version of imagemagick that we use makes an assumption of linear gamma instead of the more sane ~2.2. The workaround, until phab:T106516 is fixed, is to save the gAMA chunk in whatever software you are using or add a gAMA chunk using something like pngcrush. Storkk (talk) 13:10, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

I've uploaded a new version of File:Ludwik_Brzozowski,_portrait.png based off the second version (assuming that you brightened things further to attempt a workaround in the third version). The only changes were to convert to grayscale and save the gamma. Storkk (talk) 13:15, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Can someone help me create a montage for an article?

I would like to create two new montages for the info boxes of the articles on the colors red and blue, based on the article content. I did it some time ago for the article white, with the help of the Graphics workshop, but they have a new request form which doesn't seem to work for this kind of request. If you are trying to create a montage for English Wikipedia, you don't need to stitch them. You can use a template, en:template:photomontage... exactly as it appears in, um... white. Storkk (talk) 16:09, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Need some helpful person to fix an svg

I would guess it's due to the filter on the arrow ("filter3557"). If this could be replaced by a simple opacity statement, the problem might go away (but I don't feel too confident about doing it myself). AnonMoos (talk) 23:08, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
