Wrong extension?

Could someone check (and correct if necessary). Thanks in advance. --Yann (talk) 11:50, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

The file is 1080p 30fps vp8 with unknown duration (thus .webm extension is correct), but technically corrupted. Some media players can ignore that error and continue playing, but I wouldn't recommend that. I've DR-ed the file --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 13:29, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Rotating videos

Request
There are currently two videos erroneously including the {{Rotate}} template, which only works for images. Could an expert of you, please, fix these manually and remove the template? The videos are File:Hakubutsukan-Dobutsuen 2017.webm (but I am not sure, whether the request is substantial) and File:Machines de construction - juin 2017 - ZAC des Malettes.webm. — Speravir – 22:11, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Hi @Pristurus: ,
Actually I "have" a similar problem with this video File:VIDEO Nuraghe Izzana.webm. Do you think it is possible to fix the rotation pb for this one too? How can I help?
Thank you. --Benoît Prieur (d) 17:35, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Pristurus. What software do you use? (Is there some free for Windows?) Alas, there is another request now, see Benoît’s posting above. — Speravir – 18:39, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
Oops, for unknown reasons the ping didn’t work, hence a second try @Pristurus. — Speravir – 20:34, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
I take a static build of ffmpeg (64-bit) for such jobs. It is a command line tool. For rotation (180 degrees) I have created a batch file and use it per drag and drop. You may try it in the following way:
1) Download a static build of ffmpeg (32-bit for Windows32, 64-bit for Windows64 systems). Unzip the download in a folder of your choice and find the ffmpeg.exe.
2) Use the windows editor to create a new file and copy and paste the following two lines:
"~~\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i %1 -vf "transpose=2,transpose=2" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -quality good -cpu-used 0 -b:v 6000k -qmin 10 -qmax 42 -maxrate 12000k -bufsize 10000k -an -pass 1 -f webm %1_pass1.webm
"~~\bin\ffmpeg.exe" -i %1 -vf "transpose=2,transpose=2" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -quality good -cpu-used 0 -b:v 6000k -qmin 10 -qmax 42 -maxrate 12000k -bufsize 10000k -c:a copy -pass 2 -f webm %1_pass2.webm
Now replace the term ~~ with your local path to ffmpeg.exe and save the file with the extinction ".bat" (and NOT as .txt!!). You may select any file name and path of your choice, close the editor.
3) Now you are able to rotate videos from commons by drag and drop using your new batch file... Regards, --Pristurus (talk) 22:44, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

You mean change to greyscale? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 04:53, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Should be better now (but still not optimal). --Pristurus (talk) 14:54, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, better, but was it necessary to reduce the resolution? Regards, Yann (talk) 20:28, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Nope, however I am unable to save the 480p version from youtube to my computer (win10, seamonkey 2.49a2,64bit). --Pristurus (talk) 23:03, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. Yann (talk) 07:20, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Rotating a video

Request
Hi everyone; I've come across this video through de:Schweizer Bahnhofsuhr where it was added but later removed because it's flipped 90 degrees to the right. It's currently also used in English and Portuguese Wikipedia. I was told at the Village Pump that this is the place to request a rotation :-) - Speravir also pointed to an instruction on how to rotate videos, so I could probably do it myself, but as this is the first such case I've come across in all the years here and it will probably remain a rare one, I would like to leave it to someone who's already using the tools :-) --Gestumblindi (talk) 19:52, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

✓ Done, but it results in some technical problems (s. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T178724). --Pristurus (talk) 22:42, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

@Pristurus: Thanks, though this issue with thumbnail generation doesn't make the video very appealing in the Wikipedia articles where it's used, such as en:Swiss railway clock... no thumbnail preview now... Gestumblindi (talk) 19:06, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
@Pristurus: Apparently, the problem has been solved? Thumbnail is working now... Gestumblindi (talk) 19:57, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes it seems to work now. I have (re)indexed the original video file (mencoder: -ovc copy -oac copy). But reencoding results in a shorter duration (about 1 second is missed). --Pristurus (talk) 13:14, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Blurring or removing text on a video

Hello, I'd like someone to remove or at least to blur the company name ("Siguenos, Fusechile, Fusepedals") and the social media logos on this video (they always stay in the corner), in order to remove the advertising. Thanks! --Skimel (talk) 12:57, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Woundn't this violate the license, under which the original Youtube video was released? file link —andrybak (talk) 17:19, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
Hmm, after reading up on CC BY, it seems that such a change won't be a violation. But it does seem a bit counter-intuitive, that removing direct mention of the author in the video is not the same as not giving attribution. —andrybak (talk) 17:24, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
