Fives bat

Hey all,

I recently wrote a section on Bat Fives, an old English sport here, and I'd like a picture of the bat used. There are several online, but I cannot find one with free use rights. If anyone a) has access to the w:Radley School Archives (they have a couple there) and could take a picture, or could find a copyright-free picture of one, that'd be amazing.

I'm sure she must have gone to at least one public event and subsequently gotten herself photographed by someone who'd have then distributed said photos under a compatible licence. I did find a couple of photos on Flickr with that site's CC 2.0 licence, but everything about them screamed 'Flickrwashing' even before I found out that the account containing the photos had been blacklisted for Flickrwashing, so that's an obvious no-go. - Dvaderv2 (talk) 13:39, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, aka Sonata Pathétique

Piano Sonata No. 8 (Beethoven) played by a pianist (no software generated stuff), preferably recorded professionally, would be great.--RZuo (talk) 13:31, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, now I see this image has license Attribution-NonCommercial, not allowed in Commons. If somebody find an allowed image, can upload?--Davidhs0 (talk) 22:34, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Anyone got access to a library stocked with the Journal des Savants?

Oldest scientific journal in the world by some measures. The July 1817 issue is actually the source for the name of the Bonin Islands and came with a map, which Google's digitization unhelpfully botched. Gallica's missing the issue on their end. The most likely format would be this bound version of the issues Jan. 1816 to Dec. 1817, the first after the hiatus in publication during the Napoleonic Wars, but it was unhelpfully printed without a series number, volume number, or updated colophon. The original issues were all printed at the Royal Printing Office in Paris (A Paris, de l'Imprimerie Royale) and the bound version presumably came out in 1817, 1818, or thereabouts. (Google's version dates it to the first issue included, which is obviously wrong but be copied in any library system.)

In any case, it would be great to get a high resolution version of that map for use here and elsewhere around the net. Literally, there are books that have been published on the Bonins/Ogasawaras that have mentioned the map and then apologized for the inability to find a decent digitized copy of it for inclusion. It'd be nice if someone could fix that and then mention it on the various Bonin/Ogasawara talk pages around the project so it could be worked into the #Name, #History, or #Gallery sections. — LlywelynII 08:27, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

New day and night photos of the Austin skyline

Hi, everyone! I took an 8-day trip to Austin a couple of weeks ago and really liked the skyline, but I didn't get any really good photos of it with my iPhone 11, and my night pics were just blurs, so I deleted them from my phone. The city has a rapidly changing skyline, and there's a new skyscaper with one curved side toward the western part of Downtown that's very striking, especially when its roof is lit up blue (I think it was) at night, but Commons does not yet have a photo of it or of the skyline including it as a completed building. I believe it's w:Block 185, still described in en.wikipedia as "final completion is expected for Q2 2022." I really have two motives for hoping one or more of you excellent photographers takes on this project: (1) I'd like to replace the 2010 skyline photo on the Wikivoyage article, and (2) this is a city with a striking, unique skyline that deserves a Featured Picture set. Any takers? Austin is a great place to visit. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:50, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain

Hello! I'd like to request to anyone living in Madrid or visiting the city, some pictures about the new headquarters of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Unión Europea y Cooperación). The HQ of the Ministry was recently moved to a building in the Plaza del Marqués de Salamanca and, although there is an image, it is old and with little visibility of the building. Thank you. Missing NC/SC county courthouse pictures

Hello,

I am trying to get every NC/SC county article to have a picture of their county courthouse in the infobox. If there are any North Carolinians or South Carolinians willing to help, below is a list of all the articles that currently need or lack a good quality photo of them.

Missing NC/SC flag pictures

As well as county courthouses, I am trying to get every NC/SC county articles to have a picture of their county flag (if they have one) in the infobox. Per Flags of the World, there are several counties (and municipalities) which have a flag but don't have an image that exists online. If there are any North Carolinians or South Carolinians willing to help, below is a list of all the articles that currently need a photo of their flag.

Please strikethrough any articles that get updated. There might be some entries missing from the list, but additionally, there are also many poorer quality or outdated seal and/or flag images scattered across various NC/SC articles. If anyone has the knowledge and time to vectorize or update some of these images, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help and have a great day! T40/M17 WhizBang

I am currently in the process of re-writing the Wikipedia page for the T40/M17 Whizbang (example image inside), but there is only one image of it available on commons. I am wondering if anyone can find any images of it in the field and upload them, even just one image of it in the field would be much better than what I have now. I know the US archive has some images but I have no idea if I am even allowed to upload those, let alone where to find the original place those were uploaded. If you have any updates please let me know here. DynCoder (talk) 05:59, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

tripping

wikt:spænde ben. Based on the usage example at ordnet.dk talking about how it is unsportsmanlike for athletes to do it, intentional tripping may be intended. I saw Category:Tripping but only one of the images really illustrates this action, namely this one, and that is kind of grainy and not of optimal quality (but if nothing better is found, I'd happily use it). I'm surprised there aren't more photos of people tripping as it is a rather basic verb (whether by accident, or by someone else's malice as in the Danish verb). 70.172.194.25 05:01, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

You are right, they are somewhat hard to come by. Have you seen File:Football trip.jpg, which I have now categorised properly? Maybe that's more like what you're looking for? Felix QW (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Barbeya and Physena

One image each (any species, any image) for the families Barbeyaceae and Physenaceae. Thanks in advance. Dank (talk) 19:18, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

The only genera are Barbeya and Physena. Dank (talk) 21:38, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
It is surprisingly difficult to get those images, and I couldn't find any public domain illustration or photograph of Physena. However, the original 1891 protologue of Barbeya included a lovely illustration plate, which I have cropped and added to the Wikipedia page you linked. Felix QW (talk) 16:15, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Zipair Tokyo revised livery

I wish to file a request for a someone to upload a photo of a Zipair Tokyo aeroplane, with the revised tail fin: they phased out the original "Z" design (which predates the Russian invasion of Ukraine). --Minoa (talk) 14:16, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

hookah lounge icon symbol

Maybe someone would be interested in making a small single-color icon representing https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dhookah_lounge in SVG? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hookahs_in_art has nothing beyond https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_marker_icon_%E2%80%93_Nicolas_Mollet_%E2%80%93_Waterpipe_%E2%80%93_Culture_%26_Entertainment_%E2%80%93_Light.png raster one (which I tracked down and added to the category)?

As it would be used in OpenStreetMap editor ( https://github.com/openstreetmap/id-tagging-schema/issues/16 ) a CC0 image would be really appreciated (not entirely sure how crediting for say CC-BY-SA works when showing hundreds of icons at once).
