- Info created by a USAF U-2 pilot - uploaded by Don-vip - nominated by 9yz -- 9yz (talk) 02:39, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support as nominator -- it documents an important moment in US-China relations: an act of direct, physical, intelligence gathering on (above) US soil. It's also, frankly, very impressive. The U-2 was likely moving at several hundred mph, yet the photographer managed to line up all the important elements - themselves, the plane's wing (a distinctive feature of the U-2), the balloon, and the plane's shadow, all while piloting the plane at a high altitude. 9yz (talk) 02:39, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom.--Peulle (talk) 10:48, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose The compo doesn't work for me. The crop isn't good. --Sebring12Hrs (talk) 22:48, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Sorry, but the plane’s wing is hiding a part of the Chinese balloon; at the first glance the balloon looks like a part of the wing. Most of the picture is uninteresting out-of-focus stuff like the pilot’s helmet. That unsharp thing protruding from the left into the window does not help the composition, and I wonder why the focus is obviously on the wing – either the cockpit or the balloon should have been in focus. In the end we are seeing not much in this photo, neither of the aircraft nor of the balloon nor of earth. Maybe this is a great shot for the friends of military stuff, but as a photo it just does not work. If we would see the pilot’s face, looking concentratedly at that suspicious balloon, that could change everything … --Aristeas (talk) 11:10, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Supplement: You could try to nominate this one as a FP on the English Wikipedia. For Wikipedia FPs the eduational value of a photo is often considered as very/most important, much more than here on Commons where we emphasize the technical and aesthetical quality. So a photo like this one may have better chances at the English Wikipedia, especially because there may be many US voters there which may consider that “Chinese balloon incident” as thrilling. --Aristeas (talk) 09:48, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Interesting, but as per Aristeas. Yann (talk) 10:14, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per others. Until we can get a shot that at least shows a clear view of the balloon from the U-2, we still haven't found what we're looking for. Daniel Case (talk) 18:15, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Whether this was a really important moment in history will have to be seen. Right now it's firmly in VI territory, but for me the event was not WOW-inducing enough to make up for the photograph's weaknesses (of which there are plenty). --El Grafo (talk) 08:07, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
