- Info Great black-backed gull (Larus marinus), largest gull in the world, "pirates of the sea". Surprised there are no FPs of this one yet. all by — Rhododendrites talk | 12:32, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

- Comment Why there's something white at the bird's beak? - ABAL1412🇻🇳🇸🇺🇷🇺 (talk ☭) 13:52, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Not sure. Maybe something blowing in the wind? I'll see if I can remove it tonight. — Rhododendrites talk | 14:18, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose See lots of other larus marinus images in the category that show the full bird, including feet. This one should too. --GRDN711 (talk) 15:24, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes there are a lot of photos of these gulls, but none with such a defined and interesting plumage. This gull really puts the "great" in 'Great black-backed gull'. It looks like it's been working out! Could be the neighborhood tough guy, judging by the frayed tail feathers. ;-D With lots of "nice" and "good" gull photos, I don't mind one that is photographically great and interesting. --Cart (talk) 16:37, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose I don't understand why everyone vote oppose on the swan but support this picture of a gull which has nothing special... Sorry but this is just a gull on a beach. The colors and the sharpness can't bring the wow factor I expect. --Sebring12Hrs (talk) 16:12, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'd defer to others on this nom, of course, but a couple reasons people may express higher standards for the swan are that they are very common and "cooperative" (they often approach humans). We have twenty FPs of that species, and voters will often compare a nomination to existing FPs. Not saying this photo is better than that -- just why a mute swan nomination is going to be tough. — Rhododendrites talk | 17:05, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe because the swan reminds them of The Swan Lake ballet, which was written by Tchaikovsky, a Russian. just kidding. -
