Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Annual Report for 2019
The year 2019 started with a new online activity for the Commons Photographers User Group: at Your best shot 2018, members shared their thoughts on what they thought was their best image of the prior year. During January and February 2019, 30 user group members posted their most memorable pictures and the very unique stories behind them. Given that the technically perfect and featured picture-worthy shots are not always the ones that we keep in our minds and hearts, the online exhibition “Your best shot” offered a welcome opportunity to reflect on our photography hobby from a different and unique angle.
Also in 2019, Commons Photographers User Group members met during Wikimania in Stockholm, Sweden. On August 14, a group of about ten members and friends of the user group went on a photo expedition to the city of Vaxholm in the Stockholm archipelago. They boarded the historic steamship SS Storskär and enjoyed the opportunity of taking plenty of pictures of Stockholm from the water plus a bit of the archipelago. Upon the arrival at Vaxholm, the group took the small ferry to Vaxholm Fortress and started exploring the historic fortification, which was used as a movie location for the pirate stronghold in the Swedish movie Pippi in the South Seas in 1970. The evening concluded in a restaurant in the historic part of Stockholm, where everyone enjoyed excellent food and drinks. Two days later, three user group members gathered for a smaller photo tour through Stockholm. Highlights of this tour were the beautiful small island of Beckholmen and the architectural treasures of Stockholm’s metro system. Over the course of calendar year 2019, 10 new members joined the user group.
