Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Annual Report for 2018

In 2018, the Commons Photographers User Group unsuccessfully applied for funds to hold an in-person meeting between August 21 and 27 in Iceland. The event would have focused on teaching and learning, practicing the members’ photography skills in the field, discussing Commons-related topics, and offering participants with an opportunity to donate and exchange gear. Given that this would have been the first in-person event organized by Wikimedia’s photographers, hopes were high that the meeting would give the user group a boost and provide its members with a great opportunity to get to know each other better.

After the application got denied by the Wikimedia Foundation, the initially high motivation of the event organizers dropped to an all-time low. As a result, no more events or activities were conducted for the rest of the calendar year. 2018 was a lost year for the user group.

Despite all of this, a total of 23 new members joined the user group.
