The institution[edit]

The Cervantine Library (Biblioteca Cervantina, also known as the Library Miguel de Cervantes) is a library located on the main campus of Tecnológico de Monterrey, in the city of Monterrey, N. L, Mexico. This public library has one of the greatest collections of incunable, manuscripts, artifacts and valuable prints from the 16th to 19th centuries. It also houses series of photographs covering the history of Mexico and Monterrey during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Library safeguards a great part of Mexican history in the form of special collections, which are part of the Historical Heritage Fund. The collection in its entirety has been taking shape since 1953.

Collaboration with Wikimedia[edit]

The Library began collaborating with Wikimedia through the Tec de Monterrey's Wikimedia Foundation Affiliate Wiki Learning in 2016, with a small upload of 32 scanned books and other documents in or about Mexican indigenous languages. These uploads include the first authentic examples of language in Wikimedia/Wikipedia in languages such as Totonac, Zoque, Fox (Kickapoo), Matzalinca and more. It also includes examples of languages that are now extinct, such as Cahita and Pajalat.
