XRayBot (talk · contribs)

The bot works manually assisted by XRay only. It just runs on request, usually one time per month.

Main tasks:

  1. Maintenance for my own images (add or update categories, check for wrong statements, add links).
  2. Create and update history information like "2014 in Dülmen" for regional images (Münsterland) - that's where most of my pictures where taken.
  3. Create (and very limited update) categories like "YYYY-MM-DD" and "Photographs taken on YYYY-MM-DD", if there are any members - mainly because of my pictures, but also for all who use these categories.

The maximum edit rate is about 10 per minute, usally only up to 5 edits per minute. (After each edit the script wait for 3 seconds.) The bot runs mostly a short time period only. The edits are checked manually.

All work done by the script is the same I've done manually before. But the manually work takes too much time.

It's a script written in Perl using MediaWiki::API.

A sample run (of the second part) is done by the category of Raesfeld. The first part is done today, but there is nearly nothing to do yet. Same for the third part.

If a bot flag is useful, please add it. (IMO it is not necessary.)

Discussion

I'm sorry. I didn't know that a permission is necessary. The permit I would like to catch up with this. I beg your indulgence. --XRay talk 08:09, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looks OK for me, but I think will be good idea to make better edit summaries for changes in description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:02, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. The next release of my script will have a more detailed edit summary. Additionaly I will add a wait of at least one second between two read requests. --XRay talk 15:20, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done It's fixed now. The detailed summary has more informations for the changes.--XRay talk 18:12, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please make another test run? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:39, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
With the fix there was a new test run. Some links were added (summary "check: link added"; just three updates on March 24th). Do you need a second run with the fix?--XRay talk 16:59, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just a second (10 minute) test run was carried out. The script found just links to add. You can see the summary "Check: link added". At the moment the script finds no other changes. Hopefully it's OK now.--XRay talk 18:16, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done Sorry. I found an tiny error yesterday. Additionaly I've uploaded new images today. So I run the script again this morning. Now there are more entries in the summary. :-) --XRay talk 07:42, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think will be good idea to list category directly instead of category YYYY-MM-DD added. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done Now there is the correct category name. I'll try a rerun of the script today or tomorrow (if necessary).--XRay talk 15:57, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And now there was another test run. I've uploaded a few images to see the category names in the summary. Please have a look to the last entry of the changes. Thank you.--XRay talk 17:03, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think categories links in MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat.js style be will even better. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:40, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done I've added links to the categories. I just checked the edits (with a very small test run) and the links are working. (Just for information: I have started two attempts. The first was the word "category" too much. I had it removed after that. The last edits are without this word.) Please have a look again.--XRay talk 15:34, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think you could also group categories under same action like added. So redundant actions will be excluded from edit summaries. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are only two possible categories (at this time). Do you think it is necessary to group these entries? I'll look at the script ...--XRay talk 15:30, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done Thanks for your suggestions. Any suggestion is welcome. The categories are now grouped. There are no other actions that can be grouped. I've checked these new style of comment with a short test run.--XRay talk 15:49, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks OK for me. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:31, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:28, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! --XRay talk 05:34, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
