Discussion

Why is a bot account needed, why isn't this done via main account? --Krd 14:04, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For some bulk uploads I need to pass parameters to a template on the description page (as done in files like File:Tesseract subspace 3b11.png). This would not be feasible with upload tools, where the description needs to edited manually. Sometimes I want to use elaborate subcategorization within an image set, and doing that with tools like cat-a-lot would be tedious and error-prone. --Watchduck (quack) 14:25, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think this should be done with the main account. Krd 20:13, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(And if that's not clear, it can be done with the main account using python.) Krd 22:18, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As long as I can use Pywikibot, I don't care which account. I assumed that edits using a bot software should be done with a separate account. --Watchduck (quack) 22:20, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If it isn't a bot (not automatic, not continuous, not deterministic, no bot flag) then it's should be a bot account. You can use a script with you main account for the described tasks. (Please take care not to run too quickly.) Krd 08:54, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, case closed. --Watchduck (quack) 09:04, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
