Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: I'd like a bot flag for my AWB edits for splitting up Sanborn maps. You can see Category:Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from Chicago, Cook County, Illinois is currently being split into 37 separate Sanborn maps, organized by year. A number at Category:Sanborn maps of Illinois I probably wouldn't split as they may have only 10 per category so it would be for organizing them into the various map by year categories.

Automatic or manually assisted: Manual, entirely

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Continuous

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): 60, I guess. I don't think I can do much faster given the need to review it.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Yes, probably just to avoid clogging up Recent changes with this minor yet tedious task.

Programming language(s): AWB You can see examples with the splits I've completed for New Orleans, San Francisco, and Phoenix (the remaining Phoenix ones seem confusing so I left them alone for now). These were done manually beforehand.

Discussion

There is an option in AWB to not use section headers. Please search for it in the menu panel. If I remember correctly, you have to deactivate a checkbox that is on by default that says "use section headers" or something similar. Also please add {{Bot|Ricky81682|flag=no|type=AWB}} to your userpage, so your message appears in the user specified language. --Schlurcher (talk) 09:42, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found it. Thanks! Hope the edit summaries are better now. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:50, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given that all edits are curated manually, I think this does not require prior approval as a bot task, but can be considered a semi-automated script like cat-a-lot. I'm fine if these edits are performed on a separate account. I would not flag this account as a bot. Recent-changes is clustered in commons already (so it would not help), but these category changes should not be hidden from the watch lists of users. --Schlurcher (talk) 09:42, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Approved without bot flag. --Krd 17:36, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
