Discussion

Please make test run. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:15, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@User:EugeneZelenko ✓ Done. Taylor 49 (talk) 19:37, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please make better edit summaries. I think will be good idea to mention category and key there. I don't think that words should be merged in key, like in File:Fi-vegaani-ei-syö-ruokaa-jossa-on-eläinperäisiä-lisäaineita.ogg or File:Fi-Minä olen kaksikymmentäviisi vuotta vanha.ogg. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:25, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@User:EugeneZelenko Better edit summaries are possible. Whitespace and greyspace is removed in order to give a more predictable position of files containing commas, brackets, long, superlong and hyperlong dashes etc. Not merging is not really difficult, on the contrary. I think it's good idea to make keys same as they should appeared in print (== readable). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:38, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Taylor 49: Please report status and make another small test run. --Krd 07:59, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Taylor 49:  ? --Krd 15:56, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: Sorry, I have been busy with other things on-wiki and off-wiki. Is there some policy or consensus about this? I can make more detailed edit summaries, although I am not convinced that it's absolutely necessary. Taylor 49 (talk) 09:06, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The edit summaries appear in the file page history, where it's totally useless to know which edit out of how many of whatever bot run it was. Please put things relevant to the reader into the edit summary. --Krd 14:36, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly disagree with the conclusion "everything is inherently useless". Nevertheless, I improved the edit summary generator and other parts of my bot in the meantime and ran another test. Taylor 49 (talk) 22:15, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The last edit message I see for this bot is "bot(underscorefinal) | edr=000-0000 ovr=010-1111 aft=000-0000 | clupnochg & cat insertion "Category:Finnish pronunciation" with sorting hint "keskiviikko" 1 x". This is to replace an underscore with a space: [1]. This doesn't make a lot of sense.
I would suggest that:
@Krd: So far the bot has not added any categories. The "last edit message" is less representative because a very limited number of most recent edits targeted pages that went wrong previously for some reason (among others underscore inconsistencies). In any case the bot now does as suggested long ago: put the category and the key into the summary. At least, the Category:Finnish pronunciation now shows correct sorting of all files in it, which was the main claimed benefit of the bot attack. Taylor 49 (talk) 21:28, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please do another test run. Krd 15:12, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
