Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Commons:Deletion requests/Transcluded user signatures was closed with the decision to substitute the templates. The signatures have currently not been substituted. I would like to use Ryan Vesey Bot to substitute all of those templates.
Automatic or manually assisted:Automatic, I intend to manually confirm the first few substitutions and then allow the bot to run automatically. If there is no indication of a possibility of a problem it will run unsupervised.
Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run):Possibly one time run, it may consist of a couple runs depending on my availability.
Maximum edit rate (eg edits per minute):6 edits/min
Bot flag requested: (Y/N):Yes
Programming language(s):AWB

Discussion
- Comment I have used this bot on en.wiki before, in addition to the bot flag, I will need the bot to be added to the AWB check page. Ryan Vesey Review me! 05:34, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Note that I made the test edits with my normal user account due to a lack of AWB for the bot. See here. Ryan Vesey Review me! 05:52, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
It seems that substitution is done also in File description namespace. I'm not sure if this is correct as there this usually amounts to a fancy credit line. These are generally accepted. -- Docu at 10:16, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- My interpretation is that the primary reason signatures are not transcluded is because they are prone to vandalism. Vandalism that occurred to a transcluded signature in the file namespace would be even more damaging because it is more likely to be seen. If I am incorrect, I can restrict it to not include the file namespace. Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:27, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- How do you plan to establish what is a signature and what is a user-specific credit/permissions template appearing in the author line? --99of9 (talk) 01:15, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- It's fairly easy. I would just set it to ignore the File: namespace. That being said, I don't realize why it would be desirable not to substitute the signatures there. Note that it was mentioned in the discussion that both should be substituted; however, it doesn't seem like every participant agreed with that. Personally, I think they should be because there is no difference between the concerns with a substituted signature on a talk page and one in the author line. Perhaps we should ask User:Jcb, the closing editor, or raise this at the Village Pump? Ryan Vesey Review me! 05:31, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

It seems like consensus is leaning towards substituting all of them at Commons:Village pump#Signature Transclusion; however, there hasn't been a lot of discussion yet so it is hard to tell for sure. Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:52, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- I suggest you go ahead with the non-Filespace work, and after that we can look at how it went and what's left. --99of9 (talk) 07:03, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Left a message on Ryan's talk page, asking if he still wants to proceed with this request. --Dschwen (talk) 14:53, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- If this task is closed as stale, I would be glad to file my bot to do it. Riley Huntley (talk) 10:17, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
- I have filed Commons:Bots/Requests/RileyBot due to Ryan Vesey's loss of interest in the task. Riley Huntley (talk) 06:49, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Closed as stale. --Dschwen (talk) 15:52, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
