Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Adding categories to images based on predefined lists. Specifically in this case, adding images from User:Mike Peel/WLE biosphere (which were identified by finding images in both Category:Biosphere_reserves_by_country and Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017) to Category:Images from Wiki Loves Earth Biosphere Reserves 2017, at the request of @John Cummings. Ideally a more general permission for similar tasks in the future would be good, otherwise approval for just this case would be OK. There are about 4,000 images affected in this batch.

Automatic or manually assisted: Automatic

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run(s)

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): 10

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): N

Programming language(s): Python (Pywikibot)

Discussion

Many thanks @Mike Peel: for doing this, just a note to the people assessing this request it would be very very helpful if this request could be answered quickly, being able to judge and submit photos to the international Wiki Loves Earth round is dependent on this task. --John Cummings (talk) 19:03, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is okay to get on with it, cat changes like this are common without a bot flag. It need not be a problem. -- (talk) 21:35, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks @: . I'm going to start some test runs now to make sure it's working correctly before setting the full batch going. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:14, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Test edits seem to be going fine, so I'll start the main run, and will keep an eye on it for the first edits. The code I'm using is at User:Mike Peel/addtext. Please let me know / block the bot if there are any issues. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:25, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This run is now completed. It had some interruptions due to internet connection issues, but otherwise went smoothly.
For future runs like this, should I ask again here, or just set the bot running? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:49, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say for cat changes only, of a similar size, you can just set the bot running. Will close this request as withdrawn. If you like to run other task with this bot, please get back. Thank you! --Krd 06:41, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
