Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: This is a general purpose account for multiple future bots. Typical use is import and synchronization of CC0-licensed data from Swedish government sources. Initial task is to import to Commons and WikiData from Naturvårdsverket (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency) containing nature reserves, national parks, items in nature with preservation clauses (historical trees, stones and what not), etc. Some of this data is already available from previous imports but are lacking geoshapes in Commons:Data. Many values have been updated should be diffed and updated at WikiData.

Automatic or manually assisted: Automatic

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Generally it will initially be a single import and will then be manually triggered to run again whenever the source data has been updated.

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): In bursts up to perhaps one every second? I can of course limit this.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Y

Programming language(s): Java, Python

Discussion

  • Please set maximum edit rate to maxlag=5 or 1 edit every 5 seconds. Can you please complete a bot trial of 50 edits for your "inital task"? Future tasks, as stated Eugene, would require other requests. ~riley (talk) 05:00, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: It's the data the robot import which is CC0, not the code of the robot. See the data source, it states "Naturvårdsverket tillämpar CC0-licens. Ange gärna källa." i.e. "Data from the Swedish Environment Protection Agency is licensed with CC0, but feel free to give leave an attribution.". Due to being a new employee at Wikimedia I'm uncertain regarding internal license policies. Currently added a GPL 3.0 to the code as it's more restrictive than a BSD-derivate, but it might change to the later in the near future. Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 14:20, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I meant data license. I think will be reasonable to change links in file descriptions to pages with license. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:13, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I added a comment in README on where to find the licence. Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 12:40, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help out. We'd be very grateful with any help moving this bot towards acceptance. It's a part of Wiki Loves Earth 2020, starting May 1st, and the bot has some 10k maps to upload to Commons by then. Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 08:45, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please make new test run (5-10 uploads. Bot is unblocked. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:50, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There would be no change to the data it upload, I just made a comment in the README of the github repo. However, the source link in the data at commons also show CC0 1.0 if you click the "Restriktioner"-tab. Is this enough? Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 00:18, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The license is also mentioned in the XML in the upper right corner of that page: Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 10:12, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is also the government hosted open data portal that mentions this data set, but this is not the original source of the data, this is just a link to the source we use. Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 10:18, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: Do you still want me to run the bot a bit, even though there is no change compared to before? Karl Wettin (WMSE) (talk) 15:08, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think new test run is not needed if bot code was not changed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 04:37, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
