Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought:

I'd like to request a fairly free hand to make automated edits to files uploaded from the British Library's "Mechanical Curator" set on Flickr, and also a couple of other British Library sets of map images we have (the Goad maps and the OS Drawings) that similarly have map georeferencing information in the BL's Georeferencer. Also to create/edit category pages for books that the images come from.
The type of jobs I have in mind would be, e.g.
  • Adding/removing/refining categories, where different categories might apply for each file
  • Adding or modifying fields in the file description, e.g. adding map orientation and projection information, which I hope to have in future; and e.g. also, cleaning up any mistakes I may make in the initial upload process
  • Migrating files from existing description templates to use the {{Map}} template, such as the roughly 3000 Mechanical Curator map files already uploaded, to conform these to the much fuller information being added for the new uploads.
  • Creation of category pages for books that the images are from; migration of existing book category pages to use the {{Book}} template.
See also Commons:Bots/Requests/JhealdBot (3), which seeks permission for an uploader bot for map images from the "Mechanical Curator" set

Automatic or manually assisted:

Automatic. (ie a batch of edits to run at a time).

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run):

Occasional. Mostly one-off jobs; but there may be an ongoing range of such jobs.
Jobs will be prepared off-line, the prepared menu of edits for the job will then be executed by the bot.

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute):

Throttled to no more than 12 a minute by the library, I believe.
20 a minute. (apparently not throttled by library, so using 'sleep(n)').

Bot flag requested: (Y/N):

I think the account already has one.

Programming language(s):

Perl. (using MediaWiki::Bot).

Discussion

Please make test run for each kind of intended work. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(Note that some of the items tagged as maps turn out not in fact to be maps -- this appears to mostly be because the uploader has uploaded an extra page from the pdf of the book, but has copy/pasted the description template from another file without changing its flickr link. Tagging these all into the maps category gives, as a by-product, a useful way to identify some of these visually, add them to a maintenance category, and then fix them). • Approval run for template parameter setting or adding. Parameter georef=.... set or added for 50 maps to mark them as georeferenced. (See [3], 10:15 to 10:30). There are 1685 more files to add this for. Combined with the previous step, this will then allow the template to categorise files that are maps that have been uploaded but not yet georeferenced. • Are the above enough to sign off on the first two bullet points of the request? It would be very useful if someone could approve it for those, with the remaining points to be demonstrated/approved in due course. Jheald (talk) 12:56, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 10:50, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
