Discussion

Test edits done. Unfortunately some "new version" uploads happened, that tells me "URN kataloginfo" is not a unique id. This will be fixed in the production code.--Premeditated (talk) 00:03, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Premeditated: nice photos! If you're uploading historic photos, wouldn't it be better to use {{Photograph}} and fill the relevant fields? Multichill (talk) 20:29, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: yeah, I will change it to use {{Photograph}}. Thanks for informing me about this template. There is also some of the TIFF files that struggles to create a thumbnail. So, I'm considering using big JPEG files instead. - Premeditated (talk) 15:14, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer the original tiff files. Did you already have a look in Phabricator if you could find a relevant bug about this? Multichill (talk) 20:12, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: I agree, but the images needs to be usable on Wiki. I get the same error message as this task T226318. So, could be some throttling issue. --Premeditated (talk) 23:26, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It appears the file pages lack information why PD-Norway70 applies, i.e. a link to information about the author of the photos is missing. Can you add this? --Krd 08:24, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Krd: Thanks for showing interest in this bot request. PD-Norway70 is used for photos that is taken in Norway, and PD-old-70 is used for other Scandinavian countrys. I don't have a lot of information about the authors, but I could look further into it if you want. The license for the file is found on the source page (like this) under the tab "Regler for gjenbruk". This state "Falt i det fri" that means public domain. - Premeditated (talk) 12:13, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PD-Norway70 says the file is free 70 years after death of the creator. If we don't know when the creator died, how do we know if the license matches? --Krd 03:55, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: Hello! The files that will be uploaded as a result of this bot request are part of a cooperation between Wikimedia Norge and the National Archives of Norway. Would it help if we get an OTRS statement from the National Archives vouching for the validity of the {{PD-Norway70}} tag? Side note: I think {{PD-Norway50}} might actually be a more correct tag for these pictures, since they were created for documentary purposes and not as artworks. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 14:25, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm open to any solution, but actually I think most if not all of the uploads should be tagged with no-permission currently, because copyright status is not obvious. I think this cannot be approved as a bot job in this way, so anything has to be added that makes copyright status clear. --Krd 14:23, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd and Premeditated: Anette Alsvik from the National Archives just sent us an email on OTRS confirming that the photos should be tagged with {{PD-Norway50}}: ticket:2021020510005513. Are any further actions needed for this to be approved? Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 13:21, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
{{PD-Norway50}} says To uploader: Please provide information about where the image was first published, who created it, and when the photographer died, if known. The right to be attributed does not expire in Norway. Will this information be added by the bot? --Krd 07:34, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: I might be mistaken here, but I believe the publication on Digitalarkivet (our source) is the first time they've been published, at least in a manner that is available to the public. That doesn't affect the copyright status though, since the law clearly states that what matters is when the photos were taken, not when they were published. In any case, I have asked our National Archives contact to clarify – once we have that, the information will be added by the bot. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 10:51, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 08:42, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
