This is a replacement for an existing authorisation for Geograph Update Bot.

The bot has been updating locations in Wikitext for some time now. This extends that authorisation to allow it to update structured data as well. Recently, BotMultichill has added geographical structured data to many images from Geograph Britain and Ireland, duplicating the information in {{Location}} and {{Object location}} templates. This means that when locations are updated on Geograph, my bot should transfer the updates both to wikitext and to structured data. This requires a slight broadening of the bots existing authorisation to cover structured data.

There's more detail of what the bot will do at User:Geograph Update Bot#Location updates.

I'll start a test run shortly. --bjh21 (talk) 20:33, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Test run complete. See the last 40 or so edits on Special:Contributions/Geograph Update Bot. --bjh21 (talk) 21:23, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

  • Edit summaries in files I looked claimed Add camera location and update object location. However only one set of coordinates was changes. Will be good idea to adjust edit summaries to reflect actual changes. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:00, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Curses! I was hoping I could get away without that. At the moment the bot uses the same edit summary for an SDC edit as for the preceding wikitext edit, but in SDC it never adds a statement so they're not always accurate. I'll fix the problem, and also try to find some different-shaped edits to test. --bjh21 (talk) 14:05, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you can just make it "and/or"? Please make some more test edits when ready. --Krd 04:53, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Where's the fun in that? I've factored out the edit-summary formatting so now the edit summaries are generated separately for wikitext and SDC edits. After a run in simulation mode to find interesting cases, I've test-run over a few of them. See the bot's recent edits, and please ignore the first few attempts at File:Tree Avenue - geograph.org.uk - 23537.jpg while I fixed the claim-removal code. I can do a longer test run, but it will most pick up the same kinds of edit. --bjh21 (talk) 21:59, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Recent edits look OK for me. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:28, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no objections, I think task should be approved. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:02, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
