Discussion

Please make a few test uploads. --Krd 06:19, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed two short runs of 3 and 20 images each. After the upload was complete, I realised that only approved bots can review their own uploads. If you want me to remove the review tags from the uploaded images, I'll do so. —Gazoth (talk) 07:52, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good for me. --Krd 08:32, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest to move date at beginning of file name and omit day of week, since year sometimes cut from file name.
I think will be good idea to run without bot status, so more people could notice uploads and help with categorization.
Please use language or creator template for source filed.

The file name is taken from the caption and I'm currently not changing it much apart from trimming it to fit the character limits for file names (see here for trimming logic). I can certainly add some code to remove the day of the week from the end of the file names, but this will not guarantee a consistent format as some captions will be so long that the date will get trimmed out. I'd rather not add code to parse dates from the caption and prepend it to file names as the caption format is not guaranteed to be consistent across the 129,000 images published by Press Information Bureau.
I'll look into adding a creator template, but do you want me to add one for the publisher (Press Information Bureau) or the creator (various ministries of Government of India)? The latter will be more time consuming as there are about 77 ministries and government bodies publishing their images on Press Information Bureau. The older images that I've currently uploaded for the trial run don't have the creator information, but newer images (dated after January 2005) do.
I think specific creator will be better. Same as USA government agencies have specific public domain templates. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:52, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I created Institution:Ministry of Defence (India) and added it to the author field of File:Second test of DRDO QRSAM.jpg. Is this the placement that you were looking for? —Gazoth (talk) 17:47, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's perfect implementation. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:49, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Institution templates have been created for all creators submitting images to PIB except two which were meant for miscellaneous creators. I have modified the script to add institution templates to the author field. —Gazoth (talk) 22:01, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding bot flag, I think it'll be good to have one. From the test run, it looks like the upload rate is around 4-5 images per minute rather than the initially estimated 6-7. This would mean that the bot would upload around 6,500 images daily for 20 days to cover the full collection of about 129,000 images. I think this flood of images will overwhelm recent and new image lists. —Gazoth (talk) 04:12, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In this situation you should create project for these photos categorization and recruit volunteers who are interested in such topics. Service category will be necessary. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:52, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have created Category:Images from Press Information Bureau needing categories and started looking for help at WikiProject India. —Gazoth (talk) 22:01, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bot flag set, please make a final small set of test uploads. --Krd 06:20, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed a small set of uploads from the middle of the series as the new changes would not have been visible in the older images. Institution templates were applied correctly and images were placed in tracking category using {{Uncategorized-PIB}}. —Gazoth (talk) 12:59, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. --Krd 12:02, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
