Operator: Cirdan (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information)

Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: maintenance for cultural heritage monuments, e.g. adding identifier templates and categories to images, based on cultural heritage monuments lists on the German language Wikipedia (which are edited and curated by editors and cross-checked by the bot with public databases). See user contributions for an example.

Automatic or manually assisted: Bot is automatic, but supervised during runs (i.e. it only runs with a human sitting in front of the computer)

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Bot runs are scheduled as is necessary and/or requested. The longterm goal is to run it about once a month, might be more in the beginning

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): I'd prefer between 5 and 10 per minute, but can operate at arbitrary rates. Since the bot only makes changes where necessary, the rate can fluctuate wildly.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Since the information added is solely based on the information contained in the German language Wikipedia monuments lists, which is curated by the editors there, the Bot edits require no further manual checking (aside from ensuring that it doesn't malfunction, which is done by the supervisor).

Programming language(s): Python (Pywikibot Core)

Discussion

Hi Eugene, thanks. I'll create a userpage. It is correct that the bot made a mistake in that category, which was due to programming error I made in the category-redirect detection (i.e. the bot detected a redirect, followed that redirect and then didn't check again whether the template was already included in the target page, but just added the template). You can see that I noticed immediately and that's fixed now, of course. However, I expect to see some more mistakes happening when I extend the bot's functionality to what I proposed/requested above. Since I'm supervising it very carefully during testing, no more than one bad edit should happen before I stop, troubleshoot and fix it. (You can see here on de-wiki that the bot is performing fairly complex maintenance tasks already.)--Cirdan (talk) 14:50, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you still experimenting with files. Please make sure that only one template (File:Staffel altes Rathaus.jpg). You also add unneeded newlines. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes, I'm still testing, of course. In the case you linked the file page was cascaded. I underestimated how horribly different Commons file pages are and will switch to a different method when adding something in the description field. Until then, I'm mostly interested in category maintenance in the meantime and can also operate without a flag if that's allowed.--Cirdan (talk) 14:51, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think we could close this request with getting bot status for categories processing. Then you could open other one for files. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:04, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll start a new request once I have a reliable script for files as well. Thanks!--Cirdan (talk) 17:31, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If there no objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
