Discussion

  • Hi. I'm Evan Prodromou, long-time Wikimedia contributor and product manager for APIs at Wikimedia Foundation. This bot is not part of my paid work at WMF. My goal is to get at least some of the huge corpus of data stored in graphs and tables on English Wikipedia into a structured JSON format that can be re-used by other Wikipedias as well as by third party developers. I realise that the Data: namespace is controversial for structured data, but in talking with Wikidata developers and PMs, it seems like WD is not great for tabular data, so the Data: namespace is the "least bad" place to put it. If after this bot runs the Commons community decides not to keep the data files, I can commit to cleaning them up. --EvanProdromou (talk) 19:14, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support Leave it to Evan's judgement as to the value of having a bot account to do anything they feel is appropriate within Commons' scope. -- (talk) 10:25, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
