Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Removing all files from the category Category:Files uploaded by Russavia, as requested by Russavia

Automatic or manually assisted: Automatic, unsupervised

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): Delay 5 seconds between edits (12 edits per minute)

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Y

Programming language(s): AWB

I think removing his files from his own category will not have a negative effect for us. He wants it to be removed, and he do it by socking. If we will not have a bot to do this, then the RC will be flooded and patrolling will be harder. We don't need such discussion for this, as I believe this is uncontroversial. And before asking me to do some test run edits, add my bot to Commons:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage#Bots. Thanks, Poké95 09:52, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

  • As Kalliope (WMF) has threatened to block administrator accounts that are seen to "assist" Russavia (Russavia specifically, as these circumstances and interpretation of WMF policies only apply to his case), this is reasonably interpreted as a threat to office lock the accounts of any Wikimedia Commons contributor who appears to assist Russavia in any way. Threats by the WMF should be taken seriously, so I propose there is no action taken here until the WMF have formally confirmed that nobody will be WMF office locked as a result of acting on Russavia's behalf in this way. Thanks -- (talk) 10:55, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Obviously I'm biased in this but contrary to popular belief none of us at the WMF (or at least within my team) are heartless and cold and itching at the button to block everyone at a whim. If we believed something crossed the line we're going to give a warning first unless it's a VERY obvious attempt to goad us into action knowing the consequences (with an enormous amount of good faith in that even most attempt at that are likely to get a warning first). As a one off thing I think this is fine if the community is ok with the removal, if it becomes a regular thing (running bots to do changes Russavia wants, since to be honest I think he'll always have some mass editing thing he wants to do) then the answer might become different but neither Kalli or I are ever going to come in and just lock first on something like this without talking (so I would prefer if you don't suggest we will). • @Pokéfan95: I already pointed out in your last request, and I repeat here: I consider it misleading to base your bot request on a discussion you started only a few minutes ago and nobody else commented. This again creates the impression that a solution is looking for a problem. --Krd 11:17, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pokefan, you seem to not connect with the village pump well. Adding on to what Krd stated, I have already been attempting to gather consensus for this task on the village pump, I clearly stated the following:

The above text spends more time talking about blocks than the actual original discussion. It is clear that Russavia wishes for his category to be removed from the images he uploaded, his sockpuppets have been flooding RC at a speed of 50 epm or higher doing so. Is there consensus for this to be done? If so, I'll file a BRFA under RileyBot. I'd rather a flagged bot be doing this than RC be flooded.. Riley Huntley (talk)
