Discussion

Comment I am not sure what specific tasks ArndBot will be performing but Arnd was quite active on Commons:Bots/Work requests forum, handy with many tools like VisualFileChange.js, or SQL queries and helpful with clean-up tasks like Category:Pages using Information template with parsing errors. I am confident he will put his bot to some good use. --Jarekt (talk) 02:04, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Support trusted user, helpful bot. YES. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:43, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: I am planning to do lots of edits in Commons such as https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Fontana_di_viale_fiume_%281937%29_02.JPG&diff=prev&oldid=177764546 which would flood the change log. Therefore, I kindly ask you to enable the Bot flag allowing me to perform this test run and to prove that all works fine. Thanks, --Arnd (talk) 18:53, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@EugeneZelenko and Krd: Can someone review this request, please? Concerns? --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:54, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I unblocked account and grant bot status. Please perform test run for each kind of intended clean up. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:19, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
EugeneZelenko, i made a test run for dates. I will continue when you say it is fine. --Arnd (talk) 21:20, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you intend to use bot for different purposes. I don't see adding date from EXIF in this request. Please do only limited test runs or bot will be blocked again. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:05, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
--Arnd (talk) 16:17, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Arnd, please read Commons:Bots#Permission to run a bot. And, no, there is no leap of faith when someone breaks a necessary and valid discussion with insults. --Krd 06:31, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my words, but do you how frustrating all this is? Maybe i am on the wrong path. What I need is a flexibel way to perform supervised mass edits (>1000 edits per run). If this is not possible with a Bot then i will instead use a normal account. --Arnd (talk) 07:32, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The path is good, but it seems on the one hand you are in a rush, on the other hand you refuse to describe what you are intending to do. Please at least give the community a chance to raise objections, and if there aren't any, we can still go ahead. A good idea could be to give a brief list of the bot's task here, and possible put documentation on it's user page so that it comprehensible what is done and why it is done. (This may appear self-explanatory to you, but it should be understandable by anybody.) Thank you. --Krd 19:19, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE2: I'd like to perform the described task with my bot. There are around 50k affected files.[1] A test run can be found here. Further tasks will be requested separately when they are prepared. --Arnd (talk) 05:31, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be approved if no objections arise shortly. --Krd 06:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, so i will start soon. --Arnd (talk) 13:49, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 18:01, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
