During summer 2014, the BAnQ Vieux-Montréal team starts a spotting among the 22,000 scanned files from Poirier archives holding. The goal is to select about 1,700 iconographic archives of files that might be of interest to readers and contributors of Wikipedia. In the fall, the team is working to upload files and encourages the community to reuse files.

Conrad Poirier

Freelance photographer, Conrad Poirier (1912-1968) was an autodidact, a pioneer in photojournalism in Quebec, freelance for various newspapers such as The Gazette, Montreal Standard, La Patrie and La Presse. His work reflects the evolution of the Quebec's metropolis through photographs that make travel to the heart of the history of Montreal and Quebec more widely. This fund contains more than 20,000 files digitized by BAnQ, shows the city of Montreal from 1932 to 1960, more particularly the 1930s and 1940s.

How to contribute

More than 1700 Conrad Poirier photographs were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The Wikimedian community is invited to consult the project Poirier and enrich. Several types of contributions are possible:

Insert Poirier photographs contained in Category:BAnQ-Projet Poirier in articles (see how to insert an image). You can also add more specifically unused images in the articles. Feel free to also add images into pages in a language other than English or French.
Categorize more finely images that are in Category:BAnQ-Projet Poirier.
Proofread English translations, since original caption was in French.
Link descriptions to Wikipedia articles using template {{w}} (exemple)
Add images in Wikidata using P18 property.
