Hi, this is a self-nomination. I'm mostly active as an administrator on the English language Wikipedia, where I am en:User:Sandstein, and moderately active on the German Wikipedia as de:User:Sandstein. I'm a native speaker of German, fluent in English, passable in French and can probably cope with simple texts in Italian.

On Commons, I've been uploading a ton of freely licenced Flickr images and numerous ugly self-made photos for use in Wikipedia articles. I've also reviewed Flickr licence information and participated in the odd deletion discussion. It appears that I have logged 1984 edits here. I don't know whether these include edits made as User:TheBernFiles, the username I used prior to the usurption of this account.

During my recent (re-)categorization of Military of Switzerland and Air force of Switzerland, I'd have liked to have been able to clean up after my own mistakes, such as deleting categories created in error. Admin rights on Commons would also help me with dealing with image vandalism and other image-related tasks on Wikipedia. If promoted, I would also like to help out with administrative tasks here, such as attending to deletion and unblock requests.

• Thanks for the reminder; I'm working on the categorisation, which will probably take a day or two. As to the image nominated for deletion, it is a Flickr image released there under a free licence. An editor nominated it for deletion because she believes the Flickr user does not own the rights to the image and can therefore not release it under any licence. If that were so, the image should of course be deleted. However, I think the indications that the Flickr user does not own the copyright on the image are not very strong, and that we may err on the side of keeping this (admittedly borderline) image for now, but of course delete it in the event of a rights holder complaining. We've had a discussion about this at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:December 2007 bombing of northern Iraq.jpg, which was about a similar image and was closed as "keep".
