Wikidata Infobox with no images?[edit]

Well, it would be a good idea to explain here how to change this problem. What is to do in order to add an image to a Wikibox or even to explain in short how images are added automatically. --Mosbatho (talk) 21:51, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mosbatho: it is quite self-explaining, but not for novices. Just add appropriate image to Wikidata and problem solved--Estopedist1 (talk) 05:39, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Estopedist1: It is quite easy to add images to Wikidata-infoboxes but it is definately not self-explaining when you are landing here how to do so nor where to do it. --Mosbatho (talk) 09:44, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some suggestions to reduce this list[edit]

  • General procedure
    • Click on one subcategory or gallery page.
    • Select an appropriate image that gives a good impression of the subject.
    • Click in the Wikidata Infobox on the Q-code (nearly at the bottom of the Infobox), in a new window.
    • Log in to Wikidata.
    • Scroll to the last Statement and click on "add statement".
    • Write "image" in the first field and the name of the selected file in the second one but without "File:". Click on "publish". You can also make a caption for the image: (1) click on "edit" next to the image; (2) click on "add qualifier"; (3) choose "media legend"; (4) add your caption; (5) "publish".
    • Go back to the Commons category or gallery page. Click on "hard purge" in the drop down menu (or wait several days). Now you can see the image on top of the Wikidata Infobox and the category or gallery page has disappeared from the list.
  • Special cases
    • Searching: This is a very long list (at this moment more than 800.000). If you are interested in one subject, then search with incategory:"Uses of Wikidata Infobox with no image" combined with a self-chosen search term.
    • Other kind of images:
      • Logos: you can also select a logo instead of an image. Then the statement should be "logo", not "image"; the rest is the same. This applies also to icons, image of design plans and transportation map.
    • Categories/gallery pages/Wikidata items about people:
      • Select only a portrait (painting, drawing, photograph, bust, whatever) of the person to add to the Wikidata item, NOT one of his/her works.
    • No image available:
      • Search on the internet or elsewhere for images, upload them in Commons IF they have the right licence or are in the Public Domain.
      • If you cannot find such an image AND you expect that there won't be any available ever (for instance for people who died before 1900), then: go to the Wikidata item, make a statement "image", click on the three small squares to the left of the second entry field and choose no value. The rest is the same.

Images not always shown[edit]

In some cases the display of an image included in the wikidata entry seems not to work. See Category:Light rail station Bauweg . Is this a known bug? --Clic (talk) 09:13, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly it is due to server delay. After a certain waiting time the images are there. --Mosbatho (talk) 21:50, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Or click on Purge (in the drop-down menu). JopkeB (talk) 05:33, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia list article (Q13406463) should also be excluded from this category[edit]

Can Wikidata items which are Wikimedia list article (Q13406463) also be excluded from this category? If I add an image to scuh a Wikidata item there is a message that such a Wikidata should not have an image. JopkeB (talk) 12:22, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
