Many categories appearing here just link to the WD item since the item itself does not link back to the category but to a gallery page. --Arnd (talk) 08:33, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Aschroet: That's fine, but it'd be better if they have a category item on Wikidata in that case. I'm hoping we can transition these over to using sitelinks wherever possible. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:40, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Peel, is it ok to add a sidelink from WD item to the commons category which has a link to this WD item in an automated way? --Arnd (talk) 07:12, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Aschroet: I have script that does this providing another sitelink is not already present, and I also have a script that trims the qid from the template call when they are no longer needed (I think both of these tasks fall under the bot permission that User:Pi bot already has). That will then leave the more complicated cases (existing sitelink on wikidata that might not be the same as the qid used here) in this category to handle manually. Thanks. Bot[edit]

@Mike Peel: Does your bot currently go through these and add sitelinks/"Commons category properties" where applicable (for e.g. category/items of people). --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 14:12, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Josve05a: Yes, where it can. Most of the contents of this category need manual checking, though, or a different bot approach - ideally the category should be empty. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:22, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Peel: Ok, thanks! Reason for my asking is that I use the SDC-tool to add "depict" to some photos, and at the same time add a Wikidata Infobox to the category page (by pressing a single button). (Example of categories I wil do this at). And instead of adding Commons as a sitelink, the tool adds the qid to the template (example). --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 16:45, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Josve05a: OK, it's not ideal behaviour for the tool, but I wouldn't worry about it as the bot will sort it out. I'll try to run that particular script a bit more often. Better to focus on the content rather than the exact link mechanism. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:27, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
