Category talk:Users by location

Alphabetical listing broken?

I just added myself to the until then nonexistent category Category:Users in Austria which I then added to Category:Users by country just as described on the category page. Now Category:Users in Austria shows up under the letter "U" next to Category:Users in USA instead of under "A". Why does this happen, when it seems to work with all other countries? --Florian Prischl 09:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I have the same problem with the listing of the Category:Users in Bulgaria. Why does it appear in the "U" group instead of the "B" ??? --Ivanov id 16:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Rename/rework

This has be renamed Category:Users by location recently. I think we should follow Wikipedia's example and have broader categories where there are more than, say, 5 countries (e.g. Europe), and more narrow categories are also welcome, e.g. people in a certain city, prefecture etc. I really should have named this better to begin with, but we can always fix it now. I have added interwikis here and at en.wikipedia for all categories except about the last 1/2 of European countries. We need to clarify what the relationship between this and Category:Wikipedians by country is. Richard001 (talk) 01:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Rename suggestion

This category seems to primarily contains Users by "a continent" subcategories. I therefore suggest this category is renamed to Category:Users by continent to reflect this. That will also make it easier to distinguish between this category and the proposed Category:Users with location for user pages, which has {{User location}} to locate the area in which the user could be requested to provide photographs. -- Slaunger (talk) 09:12, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Don't like that idea. First, we have category:Wikipedians by country here. But even if you want to delete that category, which you might argue is a good idea, what about people who don't live on a continent? I live in New Zealand, and Oceania certainly isn't a continent. I see your point. But should it then not be called Category:Users by country? And then we should get rid of the current continent categories in this category and simply have a flat country category structure as is also used elsewhere, see, e.g., Category:Nature by country. -- Slaunger (talk) 06:16, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
