Proposed move[edit]
The magazine's name is "Time" and not "Time Magazine", so these should be either "Time (magazine)" as on English Wikipedia or "Time magazine".
I've proposed the following moves:
- Category:Time Magazine → Category:Time magazine
- Category:Time Magazine covers → Category:Time magazine covers
- Category:Time Magazine covers in the 1920s → Category:Time magazine covers in the 1920s
- Category:Time Magazine covers in the 1930s → Category:Time magazine covers in the 1930s
- Category:Time Magazine covers in the 1940s → Category:Time magazine covers in the 1940s
- Category:Time Magazine covers in the 1950s → Category:Time magazine covers in the 1950s
- Category:Time Magazine covers in the 1960s → Category:Time magazine covers in the 1960s
Category:Time (magazine) people has been in place since 12 June 2020.
I'm not very familiar with Commons, but I'm working on a project on English Wikipedia to make references to Time magazine consistent and I keep seeing references to these categories. Thank you, SchreiberBike (talk) 02:55, 2 January 2022 (UTC) edited SchreiberBike (talk) 22:11, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Object; counter proposal: Looking at a sample of issues, I don't see indication that "Time Magazine" was the official name of the publication. (Looks like it billed itself on the covers first as "TIME The Weekly News-Magazine", then for decades as "TIME The Weekly Magazine", then more recently simply "TIME". So no objection to calling it something other than "Time Magazine". However as far as I can determine it has never called itself "Time (magazine)". I dislike the creation of Wikimedia-specific neologisms that are used nowhere outside of Wikimedia, especially ones with gratuitous parenthesis when they are not needed. IMO the change suggested above makes things worse, not better. Looking at what others have done, I see that both the Chicago Manual of Style and AP style guidelines (among others) have determined to render the publication as "Time magazine". I suggest we follow suit. The only change we need to make is changing the capital "M" in "Magazine" to lower case. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 04:39, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Infrogmation and Crouch, Swale: Good points. The magazine calls itself "Time" and if that word had no other meanings, it wouldn't be necessary to follow it with anything. For Category:Newsweek, it's not necessary to include Magazine, (magazine) or magazine. The word following disambiguates the word Time and I think "Time magazine" would work fine. - Category:Time is about the generic meaning of past to present etc. If "Time Magazine" is common enough per w:WP:NATURAL it can be used otherwise we should use brackets. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

- per Infrogmation above and concurrence by SchreiberBike, "Time magazine" is best, ...this "time" --Ooligan (talk) 23:11, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- Based on the above, I've changed the proposal above from "Time (magazine)" to "Time magazine" and will add that we should change Category:Time (magazine) people to Category:Time magazine people. Thank you,SchreiberBike (talk) 22:11, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Alt 2 to Category:1930s covers of Time (magazine). They were not "in" the 1930s. They date "from" the 1930s. Laurel Lodged (talk) 16:14, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
