Is separation of radter images from a category common on Commons? I've only ever seen it for vector graphics. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 22:33, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@1234qwer1234qwer4: I do not understand your query. Font comparisons are split e.g. into Category:Font_comparisons_(Vector) and Category:Font_comparisons_(Raster). Spliting the category makes sence because otherwise the categories are IMHO too big (>200). Spliting into Raster and Vector makes sence because if I want to find Fallback fonts of Wikimedia (File:SVG_Text_Font_Test.svg), then I search in Category:Font_comparisons and in Category:Font_comparisons_(Vector) but not in Category:Font_comparisons_(Raster).
Do you want to remove/rename/replace this category?  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 20:22, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, having a category split up in raster and vector files is redundant because they are complementary and having one of them separate is enough as the files of the other type can be placed in the category directly. That's why normally there is only a vector subcat and not a raster one as well, I guess. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 20:26, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JoKalliauer and 1234qwer1234qwer4: unique (with category:Single spheres (raster graphics)) categorization. To be upmerged.--Estopedist1 (talk) 12:06, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Estopedist1: I do not like upmering if a category gets more than 200 Files.
@1234qwer1234qwer4: If I would like to derivative a vektor-file I would like to filter out all raster-versions in a category.

I don't see the problem: to do this, you would simply need to look for the files in Category:Font comparisons (Vector). Also, “I do not like upmerging” is not a valid argument for not upmerging, for which arguments of unification were brought up. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 18:50, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JoKalliauer and 1234qwer1234qwer4: Upmerged to category:Font comparisons. 2 weeks no objection. Closed.--Estopedist1 (talk) 06:58, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
