There is no such place as the borough of Medway. See Unitary authority for an explanation. Medway is the council, that for ceremonial purposes only, has connections with Kent. It is not a borough like Dartford or Maidstone. Any bot changes need to be reverted. Category:Schools in Medway (unitary authority) may be acceptable.--ClemRutter (talk) 07:46, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ClemRutter: I named it that because it matched the location of Category:Borough of Medway, which is included on thd dab page Category:Medway. Also, Category:Schools in Medway should not redirect to Category:Schools in the Borough of Medway. That is because there is more than one place called Medway. If someone uses Category:Schools in Medway when they mean the Medway in Massachusetts, their entries would get redirected to the wrong place. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:11, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: Agree it is a nightmare. Thanks for the quick response. I would suggest the title could be Category:....Medway (Unitary authority) or Medway Council or even Unitary authority of Medway. Medway (England) sounds pretentious! It is the word Borough that causes the problem. Speak later- train to catch. ClemRutter (talk) 08:40, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
More detail- it depends how bored you want to be. A solution has evaded government and politicians since it was first muted in 1948 oe even 1903. The article Medway#Medway unitary authority partially explains the problem, you see that Medway Borough Council has existed and it had distinct boundaries which are not co-terminus with those of Medway Council. It existed from 1974 to 1979, when it was renamed as the City of Rochester-upon-Medway, This council area did not include Gillingham Borough Council- and about 104000 inhabitants. As I understand it our rename policy is to use the new name with a redirect from the old. Notice I never talk of the village of Medway- there isn't one. The Medway is a river, the settlements are referred to as the Medway Towns, and we can't even agree on the number of towns- it ranges from just Rochester,Chatham and Gillingham- to Rochester, Chatham, Brompton and Strood- to including Rainham, Twydall, Luton and Hempstead. I moved to the area in 1981 and it was a political hot potato in RUMCC, and when the city lost its status on amalgamation with Gillingham to form Medway Towns Council which were renamed to Medway Council the situation didn't get better.
The need for a category stems from a Wikidata request, they hav captured a list which includes the names of each primary school (not inherently notable on English) and requested a photo for each. A cat seems to be the obvious solution. In putting the photo in a new cat will cause Wikidata to generate the false entity. I had not looked for the Medway category for other buildings so was not monitoring the parent category. This will have generated all sorts of false child categories- loads of work for someone. I tend to think the problem of other hamlets and villages calling themselves Medway is not a good reason for the change- 275000 makes Medway a far more sizeable local government area that others boasting 20000 or less. On that have you any further suggestions!? ClemRutter (talk) 16:20, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
