Is Category:Pinnipedia and/or Pinnipedia necessary?

[edit]

I disagree with the suggestion that this category should be deleted because this particular sub-order is a very useful classification, covering as it does seals, sea-lions, and walruses. I have now populated the category with the three families that constitute the sub-order. Vadakkan 19:26, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

There are only 11 families in the order Carnivora. There is no need to intruduce another layer with the suborder Pinnipedia. It is not intuitive to have families and higher classifications mixed in one category. You could have the Category Pinnipedia, but it shouldn't be a child of Carnivora. [edit]

The internal links are superfluous: Pinnipedia leads back to Category:Pinnipedia, Carnivora leads to Category:Carnivora (which is already automatically generated as the parent category), Mammalia doas not exist and should be - if anything - Category:Mammals (though I agree that it could be Category:Mammalia with a redirect from Mammals. -- Petwoe 08:22, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
