Objections to renaming[edit]

Northern Catalonia is not the same entity as Pyrenees Orientales, because Category:Fenouillèdes is part of Pyrenees Orientales but not part of Catalonia. Therefore, Northern Catalonia and Pyrenees Orientales are not coterminous and categories must remain different.

Although, Northern Catalonia can be a subcategory of Pyrenees Orientales because all of Northern Catalonia is inside Pyrenees Orientales.--Pere prlpz (talk) 22:19, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would also point out that Northern Catalonia refers to the Catalan-speaking part of Pyrénées-Orientales, which is not all the department. Both categories are not equivalent. From a linguistic point of view, it is very useful to have a category with a clear language specific to a territory (a concept defined in the Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights). --Albert Villanova del Moral (talk) 07:27, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the difference may look subtle, it is important to keep the category Northern Catalonia as a different concept from category:Pyrénées-Orientales. The same structure is present in ca.wikipedia, where ca:Categoria:Catalunya del Nord is a sub-category of ca:Categoria:Pirineus Orientals, both with direct links to the same categories in Commons. Ok to reflect ca.wikipedia, because Catalunya del Nord is a (large) part of Pyrénées-Orientales. Jack ma (talk) 20:47, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
