About removing empty categories

Since october 2022 empty disambiguation categories are being removed automatically by a bot every other day, see Commons:Bots/Work requests#Remove empty DAB categories out of Category:Non-empty disambiguation categories.

You can remove empty disambiguation categories manually, or prevent empty disambiguation categories to appear in this category, by choosing one of these actions:

1. (Incidentally:) In the empty category: click on "More" and "Hard purge".
2. (Frequently:) Install the tool s:MediaWiki:Gadget-PurgeTab.js: copy the following line to Special:MyPage/common.js to install it: mw.loader.load('//en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-PurgeTab.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); Then go through each category you want to clear, click on the drop-down button and on "Hard purge" or "Null edit".
3. Original text on the main page:

If there are too many empty categories, refresh it with a nulledit to update the list of categories, which are using {{Disambig}} and {{Disambiguation}}:

1. Edit Template:disambig, change nothing, save
2. Edit Template:disambiguation, change nothing, save
3. purge this page's cache

If the above does not work:

1. perform a null edit on the emptied category listed here: change nothing, save

If this also fails:

1. temporarily add an arbitrary file to the category in question, and remove it immediately
2. then do an edit on the emptied category listed here, change nothing, save
