National Park vs. National parks

[edit]

I've added all National Park Service areas in this state to the listing. There are several reasons.

  1. The public does not differentiate between a National Park or a National Monument,
  2. Local news outlets and tourist information do not differentiate either. Thus, the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area was called 'Ohio's National Park' for years before the 2016 renaming by Congress.
  3. The National Park Service does not differentiate between areas by their official titles, i.e., National Historical Site, National Monument, National Park, National Seashore, etc. All areas are treated by the agency in the same way with the same rules. Yes, natural environmental rules are applicable to historic areas, as are the Historic Preservation rules to natural areas.
  4. The audience to Commons may be ill served if we attempt to be too exacting in the use of works, i.e., National parks being only those with those two works in their title.
  5. Only academics and book writers make a distinction in the names as a method to limit their area of coverage and to make their research more manageable.
  6. The category is National parks, not National Parks, thus I assume the English grammar implies any park of a National character or ownership. Otherwise, it should be National Parks, an official title or entity.

I'm sure there are other reasons to limit the areas covered in this category, and would be glad to listen and we can have a discussion before a final decision is made.--Chris Light (talk) 17:25, 12 February 2017 (UTC) Note: I use my own name and have an contributors page so that this is open and above board.[reply]
