Increase in 2017 ?[edit]

Hello, I have tried to sort some images in categories. I can't help noticing, that when in 2015 and 2016 we have hundreds of articles per day, in 2017 it is thousands. Is this because some bot is importing so much Panoramio images, or because some other bot has not been categorising the obvious ones ? I am asking because I would not like to do manually something which a bout could do later in a few seconds. Kind regards, --Tappinen (talk) 14:09, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's not entirely true, the first few categories has several thousand files.
What I think, is that as Wikipedia gains in popularity, self-promotional users try to upload images of themselves, but get redirected to Wikimedia Commons, and as they upload the images, they don't add categories. As well, not many new users really learn about categories, and I think they tend to skip over the categories as they upload the images, and these are a huge issue and not many people patrol the latest files anymore. So yeah, it's the new users. I think maybe a category suggestion feature in the Upload Wizard might help. Thank you. Zhangj1079 (T|C|U) 22:09, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
