Naming conventions?[edit]

  1. Commons categories include many categories with names starting with "Locator maps of"; a small number have "for" instead of "of".
  2. Some in the same parent categories (and obviously covering the same class of information about different countries or divisions) have "Location of [provinces etc] in ..."
  3. Some locator map categories (e.g. 48 states of the U.S. in its "county locator" cat)) start with the placename.
  4. Then there's "Departement of Cameroon", a bit of a mixed bag but, like most of the others, a set of maps showing one province or more in a distinguishing colour related to the image name; the country also has a "Location of provinces in Cameroon" cat, another mixed bag; see them and others in Category:Maps of Cameroon, which has the sort of mixture one might expect but has a few individual images that should be in one or other subcat (in the same way as do other similarly-named country cats).
  5. And maybe other irregularities would appear if I burrowed further.

Is there a move towards or away from standardising on one form? Standardising has potential benefits in terms of "magic words" and of simple "finding".
