Category:Inscriptions by support[edit]
Unclear wording. What is "support" here? Surely we can find some better wording? Category:Graffiti by support likewise. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:37, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

- We have to distinguish from the medium (paint etc.) i.e. Category:Graffiti by medium. But otherwise yes, we're looking for better words. "Surface" is one. "Substrate" would be precise, but it's an obscure word. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:23, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- Should we create a separate category "Paintings by surface" for things like Category:Paintings on canvas, Category:Paintings on wood, Category:Paintings on stone, Category:Street painting, Category:House paintings, Category:Paintings on automobiles, etc? - Themightyquill (talk) 10:14, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Good idea. Right now those categories are mixed with categories for the type of material used to make the image (sand, different kinds of paint, etc.). --Auntof6 (talk) 11:12, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

- @Themightyquill: while “support” was bizarre, “surface” is clearly wrong, as 3D inscriptions (including various holography) exists as well. Sadly noticed the quibbles on CfD too late. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:15, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Incnis Mrsi: Probably Category:Inscriptions isn't the best category anyway, since it has multiple meanings include any writing carved into a surface, and writing inside a book. - Themightyquill (talk) 09:50, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
