A very nice portrait of Ioan Inocențiu Micu-Klein[edit]

A very nice portrait, similar to others but different, and clearly captioned (in Latin): "IOANNES INOCENTIUS I M KLEIN de SZAD EPISCOPUS FAGARASIENSIS ANNO 1729" (possible small errors - too bad it is a low-quality jpeg) Found on ONE webpage: http://www.e-communio.ro/stire8505-ziua-in-care-episcopului-inocen-iu-micu-klein-i-s-a-indeplinit-visul - A876 (talk) 04:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

He's also on a 1997 commemorative medal. https://www.allnumis.com/medals-catalog/romania/commemorative/iaoan-inocentiu-micu-klein-blaj-1997-7475 - A876 (talk) 20:15, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Images of Inocențiu Micu-Klein misattributed to Ioan Budai-Deleanu[edit]

There might not be any actual images of Ioan Budai-Deleanu (1760-1820) at all. In their absence, people all around the web have shared and re-shared images of at least two other people without checking. If you do an image search on any random old portrait, too often you'll find it mapped to two or more unrelated names. If you search on a random lesser-known historical name, too often you'll find it mapped to images of unrelated people. I see carelessness "out there" that borders on vandalism.

An image of bishop [Ioan] Inocențiu Micu-Klein (1692–1768) got uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, incorrectly file-named and described as "Ioan Budai-Deleanu". (It has since been renamed and recategorized correctly.) When images get stored on Wikimedia with incorrect names and descriptions, it reinforces the existing web-wide mistakes and accelerates their propagation.

I think [Ioan] Inocențiu Micu-Klein and Ioan Budai-Deleanu got conflated in this article that mentions both, but shows only one uncaptioned portrait.

These webpages show similar images, captioned Inocențiu Micu-Klein:

But many other pages mis-caption images similar or identical to the above "Ioan Budai-Deleanu":

Similar mess[edit]

Portraits captioned Samuil Micu-Klein (1745-1806), such as http://ler.is.edu.ro/~cr/index.php?page=person&id=241 look similar to Inocențiu Micu-Klein. Naturally, the same image is on Commons as Category:Moise Dragoș, wikidata:Q1943044. Which iof the three is it? In trying to fix one problem, I found another. I won't be pursuing this one. Good luck resolving it. Many bishops of the era look very similar – same eyes, same beard, same hair, same pose, same robe, similar cross, same purple cap. They start to all look the same. They didn't put names and dates on all the portraits. (And maybe some photographs cropped the names off.) Be careful. Don't just grab images or information off the web, because it is a mess out there. - A876 (talk) 04:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
