Ok, same old story: from the site's terms of use,

  • Are the images on the Art Project site copyright protected?
  • Yes. The high resolution imagery of artworks featured on the art project site are owned by the museums, and these images are protected by copyright laws around the world.

See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. As long as the original works are public domain, so is any faithful reproduction, regardless of Google's statement to the contrary. Dcoetzee (talk) 21:55, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know. I'd just like to point out that similar pictures are not the mere result of a photo taken by short distance, or scan. Anyway, I'm redirecting others to the discussion at the village pump.--Elitre (talk) 23:03, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a {{From Google Art Project}}, see example here. It may look redundant with {{Google Art Project}}, but the latter does not seem to be used as a source template. --Zolo (talk) 11:06, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not 2D enough[edit]

Some photo subjects (like File:Ambrogio Lorenzetti - Presentazione di Gesù al tempio - Google Art Project.jpg) are blatantly 3D. We are not on the safe side... Moreover, such photos contradict to the our own policy -- Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag:

When the photograph shows a 2D work of art within a 3D frame
If the frame is 3D, the previous point applies and the image cannot be accepted on Commons. Please crop to remove the frame and upload a version which shows the 2D work of art on its own. If you find an existing PD-Art image including a 3D frame, please add the {{Non-free frame}} cleanup tag.

Trycatch (talk) 16:00, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

...which is why it's tagged with {{Non-free frame}}, as the quoted text above suggests. The 3D parts need to be removed. Usually cropping suffices but in this case some portions inside the frame will have to be blanked out as well. I didn't do so before uploading because I was hoping to solicit assistance from others. Dcoetzee (talk) 16:44, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, sorry, I didn't notice it. I'll help to sort out this stuff. Trycatch (talk) 20:03, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help :-) I'll take care of deleting old versions. Dcoetzee (talk) 15:34, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done???[edit]

With 856 files total, your Google "Commons" Art Project is done, or still continue?--66.232.107.140 15:10, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The remaining images are not yet legal to upload. The project only has about a thousand images in all. Dcoetzee (talk) 15:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How to download?[edit]

Hello! Please tell me how to download pictures from Google Art Project page? I want to upload a better version of Madonna col Bambino by Jacobello del Fiore? --AnatolyPm (talk) 13:57, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's necessary to create Category:Google Art Project works in Museo Correr and upload pictures there. --AnatolyPm (talk) 14:39, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
