"Flora of X" is pretty standard usage. I think its preferable to "Plants of X". What is the rationale for the change? Guettarda (talk) 06:22, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

""Flora of X" is pretty standard usage." That's what you'd think. However, if you take a look at Category:Flora by country you will find that it does not exist while Category:Plants by country is well populated.

Going up a level, Category:Plants is descended from Category:Botany while Category:Flora is concerned with a Roman goddess.

If you consider also that English is not the first language of many Commons users, the convention/consensus for "Plants of..." over the slightly technical "Flora of..." is very understandable.

Congruently, you will find that while there are still quite a few "Fauna of..." categories, at the higher level Category:Fauna by country does not exist but Category:Animals by country is well populated. -Arb. (talk) 20:50, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
